J.D. McCarty Center is looking for a Journeyman to join our team in Norman, OK. Our facility serves children who have developmental disabilities and the atmosphere is kid friendly. The qualities we are looking for is someone who is dedicated to ensure the physical environments are in excellent condition for the patients we serve. This person must be flexible when tasks are assigned and adjustments must be made in order to lessen the disruption of our patients' schedules and routines.
Salary range $60,000 to $67,000 per year. Salary will be based on experience.
Hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. This position will be required to adjust work hours to accommodate any hospital emergencies. This position will be required to take call according to the supervisor's assignment schedule.
Responsibilities:
Maintain, repair, and install HVAC and refrigeration equipment such as a refrigerant compressor, condensers, pumps, electrical and pneumatic control systems, fans, humidifiers, electronic filters, air compressors, electric motors, heat exchangers, and miscellaneous valves and pipes carrying refrigerant, water, or air at a level consistent with a mechanical journeyman licensure.
As assigned by the Director of Building and Maintenance, works with consultants and suppliers on troubleshooting systems or equipment and system upgrades. Reads and interprets schematics wiring diagrams, manufacturers manuals, blueprints, sketches, and written instructions.
Performs routine preventative maintenance on all HVAC and refrigeration equipment as assigned by the supervisor. Completes reports of maintenance inspections to include maintenance work completed, supplies used, recommendations for the equipment, and next service date.
Under the direction of the supervisor, oversees the work of Construction/Maintenance Technicians, Laborers, and Groundskeeper. Direct and teach assigned staff member basic principles of the repair or installation of the assigned project.
Under the direction of the supervisor, inspects buildings, premises, and equipment to determine the requirements for maintenance, replacement, construction, or renovation project. Assists with acquiring an estimate of cost, labor, and materials.
Assists supervisor with the evaluation of bids and the necessary specifications to meet the standards of the hospital.
Operates all Agencys equipment in accordance with equipment's manufacturers guidelines or recommendations.
Demonstrates safety awareness while performing assigned duties by using equipment properly, wearing safety belts, safety glasses, safety gloves, etc. Follows agency and department policy guidelines when lifting. Uses proper body mechanics for lifting/push/pulling up to 50 pounds and obtains assistance for weights over 50 pounds.
Acts as department supervisor in the absence of the Director of Building and Maintenance. Ensures the needs of the agency are met and completed in a professional and timely manner.
Will participate in on-call rotations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of the building trades; of the construction, maintenance, and repair of buildings, grounds, and/or utility systems such as heating, refrigeration, sewage, water treatment, or electrical power generating and distribution; of building codes; operation of a variety of heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems; of the methods, materials, fixtures, tools and equipment utilized in heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration maintenance; of standard safety precautions in the trade; of supervisory principles and practices; and of laws, rules and regulations governing the planning, installation, repair, maintenance, and alteration of heating and refrigeration systems. Knowledge of supervisory principles and practices.
Ability is required to maintain and repair various types of heating, refrigeration and air-conditioning equipment; to install various types of heating and air conditioning components; to provide guidance and training to assigned work crews; to perform highly independent work; and to read and interpret blueprints; to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.
Education and Experience:
Five years of experience in skilled building trade or maintenance work involving the construction, maintenance, alteration and/or repair of buildings, grounds and utilities, including two years of supervising employees, or contractors in one of the fields listed above; or an equivalent combination of education and experience, substituting one year of college or technical school training in the building or construction trades for each year of the required non-supervisory experience; requirements at this level consist of active licensure as a Mechanical Journeyman with the Oklahoma Construction Industries Board.

J.D. McCarty Center is a pediatric rehabilitation hospital for children with disabilities birth to 21 years of age. We are a unique 36 bed hospital. Patient are admitted for a 30-day evaluation during which they are assigned a treatment team consisting of nursing and therapeutic services.
