About the Job
Herzog Transit Services, Inc. is currently seeking a Mechanical Manager in the Miami, FL area. This position will be responsible for managing the maintenance of a fleet of commuter rail vehicles and have overall responsibility for ensuring the maintenance of the mechanical shops and facilities.
Duties and Responsibilities:

- Responsible for management of mechanical staff and facilities of HTSI’s Tri-Rail project.
- Coordinate, organize and maintain production schedules while operating at required levels of service.
- Manage the fleet Life Cycle Maintenance program.
- Ensure timely and efficient provision of fleet required for commuter services in compliance with FRA regulations and agency guidelines.
- Schedule, manage and direct a unionized workforce and, management and administrative employees.
- Responsible for working with the QA manager to implement quality programs compliant with 49 CFR Parts 229 and 238 and workmanship and materials standards.
- Responsible for hands-on training of other employees.
- Represent HTSI at project planning meetings with HTSI, third party and client staff.
- Prepare project updates for HTSI management and client staff
- Plan and track project budgets including labor usage.
- Guide and mentor staff.
- Ensure safe working environment and enforce HTSI policies and procedures.
- Regular and consistent engagement, participation and promotion of Herzog’s Culture and its essential behaviors are a requirement for this position.
- Regular and predictable attendance and punctuality are a requirement for this position.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- 10 Years relevant prior experience in (a) management of commuter rail vehicle maintenance and be familiar with commuter equipment maintenance, supervision of a workforce similar to the one that will be required for the MOE Services; and (b) general management.
- Demonstrate experience in management of commuter or passenger railroad rolling stock, specialized equipment, and facilities, including size of fleet and facilities.
- Knowledge of FRA Regulations and APTA standards and recommended practices.
- Demonstrate safety record and experience implementing safety programs similar to SFRTA's.
- Demonstrate ability and availability to respond immediately to emergency or problem calls, and to be on call twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven (7) days a week.
- Ability to assist in the development, implementation, and application of system safety plans, processes, and procedures similar to SFRTA's.
- Strong organizational, interpersonal and leadership skills required.
- Requires excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated teambuilding experience.
Pre-Employment Requirements:
- Subject to pre-employment background check and motor vehicle report review.
- Subject to pre-employment physical, medical evaluation, and drug screen due to the safety sensitive nature of this position.
- Successfully complete and maintain any required safety certification and testing on an annual basis.
Physical Requirements:

- Regularly lift weight up to 75 pounds to a height of up to 56 inches.
- Regularly carry weight up to 75 pounds to a distance up to 100 feet.
- Regularly push/pull up to 50 pounds for a distance up to 50 feet.
- Regularly grasp or squeeze with forces up to 40 pounds.
- Regularly ascend and descend a 10 step ladder with up to 25 pounds. Frequently climb on/off equipment.
- Work in a confined access/space environment with a height of 12 inches and a width of 24 inches.
- Regularly kneel, bend, squat while transferring up to 25 pounds of weight.
- Regularly sit and stand for an extended period of time.
- Able to walk on uneven surfaces up to 1 mile.
- Regularly lay on back for extended periods of time.
- Regularly reach overhead while holding tools.
- Must be able to be aware of surroundings and follow verbal commands while being exposed to moderately loud noises on a daily basis.
- Must be able to adapt to various temperature extremes including but not limited to heat, cold, moisture and wind.
- Must be able to work in a safety sensitive work environment.
- Must successfully pass color/vision examinations as required by the position.
- Must be able to hear and distinguish auditory signals as required by the position.
