Responsibilities:- Develop technology and transition initiatives for materials science and mechanical engineering systems, working alongside prestigious industry partners and universities
- Among others, these are technologies you will have opportunity to de-risk, mature, and integrate for transition readiness:
- Additive manufacturing technologies including additive friction stir deposition and other solid-state manufacturing methods
- Impact welding technologies based on vaporizing foil and laser driven methods
- Surface enhancement technologies including cold working treatments and coatings
- Laser-based processing technologies including laser peening, laser peen forming, and laser bond inspection
- Engage in digital engineering activities including modeling and simulation through various software platforms including commercial FEA solvers
- Verify technologies against military performance requirements and standards to support military concept of operations (CONOPS)
- Technically manage stakeholders and subcontracted teammates including industrial manufacturers, university research programs, and laboratories
- Take ownership from start to finish in a lead engineering role: plan, execute technical scope, and deliver while coordinating the efforts of multi-disciplinary engineering, drafting, technical writing, management, and the supporting back office
- Perform technology demonstrations, qualification programs, requirements development, system design integration, design space exploration or analysis of alternatives studies, installation evaluations
- Participate and present at conferences, symposiums, and exhibitions
- Bachelor of Science in materials science, metallurgical engineering, or mechanical engineering with materials processing experience; advanced degree preferred
- 4 or more years of engineering experience
- Ability to obtain a Top Secret level clearance
- Up to 20% travel
- Writing experience with white papers, publications, and/or proposals
- Experience leading technology development for new product introduction
