QUALIFIED MEDICATION AIDE
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing direct resident care and supervision of residents needs per individualized service/care plan, monitors residents for change of condition and signs/symptoms of illness according to federal and state laws and regulations and according to the policies of the Community. Responsible to communicate and document resident changes or concerns to Health Services Director. Assist in supervision of resident assistants. 1st SHIFT TUES, FRI, SAT
REPORTS TO:
HEALTH SERVICES DIRECTOR/CHARGE NURSE
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist residents with oral, topical, inhalation, subcutaneous medications as ordered by their healthcare providers and as permitted by state regulations.
- Documents all functions related to medication management as required by regulation, and by community protocols as defined in the medication training program. Including use of scanning devices for EMAR programs when available.
- Obtains, receives, and stores medication(s) from pharmacy. Keeps medications properly locked at all times.
- Observe residents for drug reactions and report any problems/concerns to the nurse or attending physician.
- Performing tasks associated with medication administration and allowed by state regulations, including taking vital signs, blood glucose testing and stock the medication cart.
- Participates in the medication training program and demonstrates competency per the competency checklist.
- Maintains order, cleanliness in medication storage area.
- Seeks guidance from licensed nurse as needed to perform tasks safely and efficiently
- May be called upon to assist residents with daily bath, dressing, grooming, dental care, bowel and bladder functions, preparation for activities within the community, reminders of medical appointments, and basic room care.
- Assist residents to meals and activities
- Answer call lights in a timely and courteous manner
- Maintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect; know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules; and promptly report all resident complaints, accidents, and incidents to supervisor.
- Understand and use Universal Precautions and follow established infections control, hazardous communication, and other safety rules; ensure cleanliness of assigned residents’ rooms and common areas.
- Attend and participate in orientation, training, educational activities, and staff meeting.
- Any other tasks, assignments, projects, or requests as deemed by management.

- Organizes and utilizes time appropriately toward accomplishing assigned tasks; requires minimal supervision

- Interacts in professional manner with Residents, public and co-workers. Works cooperatively with management. Displays willingness to assist co-workers when situation requires.
- Adequate and clear English speaking and writing ability; able to communicate effectively.
- Ability to spend long periods on feet and to ambulate quickly.
- Is free of non-treated communicable disease.
- Ability to work safely and to recognize potentially dangerous situations.
- Ability/willingness to follow all policies and procedures.
- Is neat, accurate, dependable and keeps work/space clean.
- Ability/willingness to work longer than eight (8) hour shift, to work holidays or overtime, to work seven (7) day schedule.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally; 35 pounds regularly.
- Routinely requires pushing, pulling, bending, walking, reaching, and stooping.
- High School education preferred.
- Must be able to squat, reach, stretch without distress, Must be able to tolerate extended periods walking, standing.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Completion of Qualified Medication Aide program with current license. 18 – 24 months experience in a similar position, CPR/First Aid certified preferred.
EDUCATION:
High school diploma or GED. If required by state regulation, certification/Qualification as a medication aide in good standing. Attendance at mandatory in-service training. Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification. Meet in-service training hours required for job classification and position.
