We're seeking a dynamic, inquisitive Media Relations Specialist to join Aurora at a pivotal time in our growth. If you are passionate about the ever-changing landscape of energy news and media, we would love to hear from you! The role will be crucial in highlighting Aurora's insights on the energy transition and our work towards creating a more sustainable energy market. You will be responsible for taking our current media success to the next level, developing our long-term media strategy, and raising Aurora's profile to stratospheric heights in the North American market.
The successful candidate will report to our North America Marketing Manager and will work closely with both our energy research and consulting teams, as well as external media contacts. This role requires excellent written and verbal communication skills, a dynamic personality, keen attention to detail, and the enthusiasm to stay current in our rapidly evolving industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Write clear, concise and effective press releases, articles and other collateral that translate our technical insights into accessible, newsworthy content
- Proactively reach out to key journalists in the industry to share Aurora’s perspective on current market dynamics and topical energy issues
- Respond to journalist inquiries, arrange interviews and comments from our spokespeople
- Develop strategies to increase Aurora's media mentions and overall traction in the industry
- Translate complex technical information into manageable, media-friendly formats
- Invite key press contacts to our industry-leading events, negotiate media partnerships with our Events Manager, and organize press conferences
- Monitor media coverage and prepare regular media updates to share with our team
- Take ownership of regular commentary about hot energy topics on our social media
What we are looking for
Required attributes:
- Experience in media relations, press release writing, and managing external communications
- Understanding of the energy sector, particularly related to the energy transition and sustainable energy markets
- Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Relations, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships with journalists and media outlets
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a proven ability to translate complex technical information into clear, engaging content
- Adaptability and eagerness to learn in a fast-paced, evolving industry
Desirable attributes:
- 2-4 years’ experience working on energy/climate-related topics in a journalistic setting
- Existing network within press industry
