About the Role: The Medical Appointment Assistant, plays a crucial role in scheduling and managing medical appointments for people participating in Search’s Supported Living Program. This position involves coordinating and providing transportation, attending and advocating during appointments, and maintaining comprehensive medical records. There is a data entry component related to appointments and reporting results, ensuring that all medical charts and documentation are up-to-date and accurately reflect testing and appointment outcomes. This role requires a commitment of 40 hours per week Monday through Friday, with flexibility of specific schedule determined according to the needs of the participants.
This position reports to the Division Manager of Medical Services.
Location: Mount Prospect, IL
Schedule: Monday-Friday 1st Shift
Salary: $21.75/HR
Responsibilities:
- Assist individuals with getting to medical appointments in the community, including those who use wheelchairs and/or other adaptive equipment,
- Advocating with individuals regarding their healthcare,
- Ensure timely follow-up appointments are scheduled and attended,
- Ensures medical appointment summaries are completed accurately,
- Deliver medical appointment summaries to the nurse, and case management team,
- Provide support in maintaining and updating medical charts,
- Confirm medical appointment times, and carry out pre-procedural phone calls to ensure all instructions have been followed and required documentation is complete,
- Work closely with the agency delegating nurse to ensure quality healthcare is provided to each individual served,
- Provide direct care assistance, when needed,
- Assist with medication administration,
- Provide support to other members of the department and work closely with the larger Search team,
- Other duties as assigned.
Minimum Requirements:
- At least six months of DSP experience,
- Basic computer skills,
- US High School diploma or equivalent,
- Ability to pass the S-TOFHLA,
- Ability to lift/carry up to 44 lbs., and perform basic physical moves such as kneeling, reaching, crouching, bending, and twisting,
- Possess and maintain a driver’s license and reliable transportation to travel between work sites,
- Ability to meet and maintain PACE certification requirements,
- Successful completion of the Direct Support Professional Training, CPR and First Aid Training, Medication Certification Training, and De-escalation Training courses, and the ability to maintain certifications on an ongoing basis.
Preferred Requirements:
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA),
- 1 year of DSP experience,
- Familiarity with applicable regulations including DHS Rules, and CQL standards.
