We are looking for a Medical Assistant to provide direct and indirect patient care activities and perform clerical duties.

The Role
- Care for the comfort and personal needs of patients.
- a. Provides direct patient care as needed.
- b. Collects, interprets and documents information related to patient care accurately and efficiently.
- Performs procedures as directed by the Medical Director. (E, 10%)
- Maintains quality control logs in the area of assignment for CLIA waived labs.
- Performs CLIA waived labs such as Accu-checks, Urine Beta HCG, Dipstick UA, etc.
- b. Takes vital signs (temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure).
- c. Collects blood, urine, stool and sputum specimens
- Administers medications and immunizations in accordance with clinical policy.
- Documents and bills appropriate for all nursing charges
- Provides clerical support to include preparing lab requests, scheduling appointments, contacting patients by telephone to reschedule cancelled clinic appointments, obtaining referral authorization for initial visit and any requested follow-up visits to Specialty Care Physician. Informs patients when referral is authorized and facilitates scheduling of specialty appointments and/or ancillary services and other computer functions as applicable
- Perform telephone call reminders for scheduled appointments.
- Demonstrates competence to perform assigned patient care responsibilities in a manner that meets the age-specific and developmental needs of patients served by the department.
- Appropriately adapts assigned patient assessment, treatment and/or care methods to accommodate the unique physical, psychosocial, cultural, age-specific and other developmental needs of each patient served.
- Supports University Health System mission, vision and values. Demonstrates established customer service behaviors and standards. Treat all customers with courtesy, dignity, respect and professionalism.
Requirements
A high school diploma or GED is required.
A Medical Assistant diploma from an accredited school or certification from an approved credentialing body for medical assistants is required.
Must have a current American Heart Association Healthcare Provider Basic Cardiac Life Support (BLS) Card.
National certification as a registered Medical Assistant is preferred.
One-year experience in a clinic, doctor's office or ambulatory care setting is preferred.
Designated cash handlers must successfully complete the Patient Services Cashier course and be designated as a Patient Services Cashier during the initial probationary period.
