About the Job
The Remote Medical Assistant will provide administrative and clinical support to healthcare providers and patients in a virtual setting. This role involves managing patient records, scheduling appointments, performing basic medical tasks, and ensuring smooth communication between patients and healthcare teams. The ideal candidate will be organized, detail-oriented, and proficient in using telemedicine technology.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Communication:
- Serve as a primary point of contact for patients, addressing inquiries and scheduling appointments.
- Provide patient education on health procedures, medication, and follow-up care.
Medical Documentation:
- Manage and update electronic medical records (EMR) accurately and confidentially.
- Prepare and review patient charts, ensuring all necessary information is included.
Clinical Support:
- Assist healthcare providers with virtual consultations and telemedicine appointments.
- Perform basic clinical tasks such as taking patient histories, documenting symptoms, and recording vital signs during virtual visits.
Administrative Duties:
- Coordinate and schedule patient appointments, including follow-ups and referrals.
- Process patient insurance information and verify coverage.
- Handle patient correspondence, including appointment reminders and health instructions.
Data Management:
- Maintain patient confidentiality and adhere to HIPAA regulations.
- Ensure accurate and timely entry of patient data into EMR systems.
Technical Support:
- Troubleshoot basic technical issues related to telemedicine platforms and assist patients with access issues.
- Stay current with telemedicine software and technology updates.
Coordination and Collaboration:
- Work closely with healthcare providers to ensure effective patient care and follow-up.
- Collaborate with other remote medical assistants and administrative staff to ensure cohesive operation.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Associate’s degree or certification in Medical Assisting preferred.
- Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) certification preferred.
- Minimum of 2-3 years of experience as a Medical Assistant or in a similar healthcare role.
- Proficiency in electronic medical record (EMR) systems and telemedicine platforms.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and manage tasks effectively in a remote environment.
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality practices.
Working Conditions:
- This is a remote position; candidates must have a reliable internet connection and a suitable workspace.
- Must be available to work within the specified hours or shifts, which may include evenings or weekends depending on the healthcare provider's needs.
