Medical Assistant- MedCheck Urgent Care
General Summary:
The primary responsibility of the Medical Assistant is to assist the urgent care providers with direct patient care and administrative tasks that provide a steady daily workflow for the provider and urgent care center. This position requires the Medical Assistant to follow directions as well as to exercise independent judgment that contributes to a quality, caring and efficient work environment.
Additional responsibilities as assigned as assisting the urgent care providers in appropriately registering patients, collecting co-pays assisting with directions for any needed follow-up appointments with specialists, occupational health appointments, and maintaining supply inventory and a variety of general office duties/tasks.
Scheduled hours are dependent on the needs of the practice.
Essential Job Functions*:
Review and prepare patient chart for completeness of clinical information for the appointment ensuring appropriate diagnostic study/lab results for the exam are in the chart.
Prepare exam rooms as appropriate for each patient visit, and clean exam rooms between each patient encounter.
Accompany patient to exam room, obtain vital signs, and review and enter patient information, including medical history and medications list, into the EMR.
Assist the provider with minor office procedures and examinations.
At the completion of the visit, label and prepare laboratory specimens for transport, and complete referral letters to appropriate physicians.
During the course of the day, return patient phone calls to regarding care and instructions, maintain medical supplies in exam rooms and supply closets.
Administer immunizations and/or medications as directed by the provider and document in the EMR.
Perform CLIA waived in-office testing and document results in the EMR
Fill vacancies at other Speare physician offices (both clinical and clerical) as requested.
Contribute to staff meeting discussions, and actively participate in problem-solving, identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.
Perform Clerical Duties as needed to include answering of phone, registration, scanning, filing and abstracting and other clerical duties as assigned.
Greets all patients/visitors, collect all appropriate paperwork, demographic information and ensures accurate registration into information system.
Maintains inventory of medical supplies and orders supplies as needed.
Refers patients to appropriate specialists as directed by provider.
Daily filing of charts/paperwork as needed [scanning, batch setting].
Forwarding of all patient medical records to appropriate parties upon receipt of appropriate release of information.
Communicate any and all changes, staff/patient problems/concerns to Supervisor.
Stock and update necessary forms for providers including but not limited to: radiology requisitions, lab requests, physical therapy prescriptions, prescription pads as needed.
Complies with hospital and departmental policies, procedures, regulations and standards as related to job.
Actively and appropriately participates in problem-solving identification and resolution, both intra- and inter-departmentally.

Qualifications:
Education
Required: high school graduate with medical experience.
Work Experience
Preferred: Minimum 5 years-experience in a medical office
Licensure/Certifications/Registrations
Required: AAMA Credentialed within first 6 months of employment if not Registered or Certified
Preferred: Current Certified or Registered Medical or Nurse Assistant designation from the State of New Hampshire
Other Skills/Knowledge
Required: Typing and computer skills necessary
Preferred: Experience with Meditech or another electronic medical record system(s)
