Position Summary:
Assist providers and patients with exams/procedures, perform lab tests, prepare and maintain equipment used for procedures, maintain records and perform clerical tasks.

Education/Experience:
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant Program.
- Experience in a family practice setting preferred.

Clinical/Patient Care:
- Escorts patients to examining room and prepares patient for examination. Interviews patient to determine needs and establish rapport.
- Obtains vital signs
- Initial history and chief complaint
- Documents these in the electronic medical record
- Acute Rapid Testing
- Communicates relevant information to the physician
- Secures consent form signatures as indicated
- Reviews patient's chart to assure that all progress notes, lab tests, phone call messages and other test results are accurate and complete.
- Update med list, allergy, procedure and history lists, determine refill needs
- Prepares examination rooms for examinations and minor procedures, and restocks examination rooms with appropriate instruments, linens and supplies.
- Prepares instruments for examination and surgical procedures, including sterilization of necessary instruments and equipment.
- Assists physicians with examinations and surgical procedures by positioning patient, preparing instruments to be used, handing instruments to the physician as needed, cleaning and dressing wounds, etc. \Prepares exam room and assists with PAPs, vasectomies, colposcopy, cryotherapy, IUD insertion, endometrial biopsy, and cosmetic procedures.
- Measures, administers and records medications, including injections, immunizations, and TB skin tests under the supervision of the physician and monitors patient for any adverse reactions.
- Measures lung capacity using Spirometer. Prepares and gives nebulizer treatments. Obtains electrocardiograms.
- Removes sutures, performs irrigations, and applies and removes dressings.
- Cleans, adjusts, calibrates and performs basic maintenance on equipment such as otoscope, ophthalmoscope, electrocardiogram, autoclave, and spirometer.
- Under the direction of a physician, nurse practitioner or physician assistant refills prescription medications by calling or faxing the pharmacy with the refill authorization information.
Clerical:
- Receives and screens incoming calls for providers. Assists with phone calls for providers to patients, pharmacies, and other providers. Accurately documents ALL patient phone calls and encounters in the permanent medical record.
- Receives and organizes incoming laboratory and radiology reports after review by the physician and informs the patient directly by phone. •Enters patient information into the electronic medical record in an accurate and timely manner, including medications, permanent problems, allergies, and other information as directed by providers. Maintains strict patient confidentiality at all times.
- Arranges for referral appointments to include consulting physicians and diagnostic tests according to insurance guidelines. Obtains insurance pre-authorization as needed. Follows up to ensure patients have obtained their referral evaluations/procedures. Tracks and documents results and reports regarding referrals.
- Orders and maintains inventory of all patient care supplies, including medical supplies, medications, and linens.
- Monitor and replace sharps containers as needed and manage medical waste per (OSHA) standards
- Receives, rotates, and updates pharmaceutical samples and talks to representatives. Maintains an accurate inventory and expiration log.
- Performs other clerical and clinical duties as directed by the physician or clinical manager to support the functions of the practice.

- Knowledge of vaccine and therapeutic medication administration.
- Knowledge of making observations of general physical condition and needs of patients.
- Knowledge of when to confer with a physician or other health professional about a patient's emotional or physical condition.
- Knowledge of the principles of aseptic and sterile techniques.
- Knowledge of the techniques of administration of common medications and knowledge of side effects of medications.
- Knowledge of common medical supplies and equipment.
- Knowledge of standard laboratory procedures.
