LOCATION: FMC 3140 Horton Rd., Ft. Worth, TX 76119
HOURS: Sunday through Sunday, normally with various shifts anywhere between the hours of 5 :30 am to 10:00 pm, with a thirty (30) minute unpaid lunch period. A session will equal one (1) hour. The facility is expected to require an average of 40 sessions per week, per assistant. The schedule shall not exceed thirty ( 40) hours per week. Supervisors will be responsible for defining the weekly schedule. These schedules are subject to change based on the variable needs of the institution and the unpredictable nature of the correctional environment. Any changes to the schedules must be coordinated with the Contract Monitor (CM) assigned under the contract. The contractor will need to be available for emergencies as necessary.

DESCRIPTION: Medical Assistants will provide nursing care to include administration of medications, taking and recording patient history, vital signs, making appointments, assisting Mid-Level Provider’s (MLP’s) and physicians in clinical activities.
- Administration of medications including oral, buccal, inhaled, parental (SQ, IM, ID, z-track, gluteal) through a pill line and by passing medications to bed bound patients
- Assisting patients in and out of bed
- Assisting physicians, mid-level providers, nurses and paramedics with medical exams chronic care visits, 14 day evaluations, follow ups, minor office surgical procedures, etc.
- Complete Medical Documentation (SOAP, EMR)
- Provide direct patient care
- Escort patients to/from exam rooms
- Follow hygiene standards/Infection Control (PPE-personal protective equipment)
- Complete Phlebotomy, venipuncture (vacutainer or butterfly with or without syringe)
- Complete blood sugar monitoring
- Complete INR monitoring
- Complete Capillary sticks (hemoglobin, hematocrit)
- Skilled use of EKG, Holter Monitor
- Specimen collection and analysis on stool, urine, blood, sputum, wound drainage, etc.
- Complete Suture/stitch removal
- Complete various lab procedures
- Complete vision and hearing screening
- Complete vital signs
- Complete minor wound care
- Answering the telephone
- Answering the patient call light and summoning appropriate inmate helpers or staff
