Job Title: Medical Assistant (MA)
Job Summary: The Medical Assistant performs a variety of clinical and administrative tasks to support physicians and healthcare providers in delivering high-quality patient care. This role includes taking patient histories, performing basic clinical procedures, and managing office operations to ensure an efficient and effective healthcare environment.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Patient Interaction: Greet patients, prepare them for examinations, and record vital signs such as blood pressure, pulse, temperature, and weight.
- Medical Procedures: Assist with minor surgical procedures, administer medications as directed by physicians, and perform basic diagnostic tests such as EKGs or urinalysis.
- Specimen Collection: Collect and prepare laboratory specimens, including blood samples, and ensure accurate labeling and handling.
- Documentation: Record patient histories, symptoms, and progress in electronic health records (EHR) or paper charts.
Administrative Duties:
- Scheduling: Schedule patient appointments, manage patient flow, and coordinate referrals to specialists or other healthcare providers.
- Medical Records: Maintain and update patient records, ensuring accuracy and confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Billing and Coding: Assist with insurance billing, coding of medical procedures, and processing payments or co-pays as required.
Patient Education and Support:
- Instructions: Provide patients with information on medication usage, treatment plans, and lifestyle changes as instructed by healthcare providers.
- Follow-Up: Schedule follow-up appointments and remind patients of upcoming visits or necessary procedures.
Facility Operations:
- Inventory Management: Monitor and manage medical supplies and equipment, placing orders and ensuring stock is maintained.
- Cleaning and Sterilization: Ensure that exam rooms and medical instruments are cleaned and sterilized according to infection control protocols.
Communication and Collaboration:
- Team Coordination: Work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare staff to deliver coordinated patient care.
- Patient Interaction: Address patient concerns, answer questions, and provide a supportive environment for patients and their families.
Emergency Response:
- First Aid: Provide basic first aid and emergency care as needed until further medical assistance arrives.
- Protocol Adherence: Follow emergency protocols and procedures for various medical situations and ensure patient safety.
Qualifications:
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
- Certification: Certification from a recognized medical assistant certification board (e.g., CMA, RMA) may be required or preferred.
- Experience: Previous experience in a medical or clinical setting is desirable but not always required. On-the-job training may be provided.
Skills:
- Clinical Skills: Proficiency in performing basic medical procedures, taking vital signs, and handling medical equipment.
- Administrative Skills: Strong organizational and administrative abilities, including experience with medical billing, coding, and electronic health records.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact effectively with patients and healthcare professionals.
- Attention to Detail: High attention to detail in both clinical tasks and administrative duties.
- Compassion and Empathy: Ability to provide empathetic and patient-centered care.
Work Environment:
- Typically works in a medical office, clinic, or healthcare facility. The role may require standing for extended periods and occasional lifting of patients or medical supplies.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting, bending, and standing for extended periods. May also involve handling medical equipment and supplies.
Submission Requirements
- 1+ Years of Experience - Required
- Medical Assistant Diploma - Required
- MA Diploma must be from a program that meets accreditation standards from either CAAHEP or ABHES
- BLS (AHA or ARC) - Required
- Contract position 13 weeks days shift
