Position Overview:
We are seeking a Medical Assistant (Nursing) to join the Internal Medicine Practice at BIDHC-Waltham for a 13-week travel contract. In this position, you will perform a variety of administrative and clinical duties in a busy Primary Care environment. Your role will include patient rooming, taking vital signs, performing EKGs, processing prior authorizations, and providing patient education. This opportunity allows you to work in both clinical and administrative capacities, offering a dynamic experience in a fast-paced healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities:
Patient Care:
- Room patients and take vital signs, including blood pressure, heart rate, temperature, and weight.
- Prepare patients for examinations and assist physicians during medical exams.
- Perform Electrocardiograms (EKGs) as required by the practice.
- Provide patient education on various health conditions, treatment options, medications, and lifestyle adjustments.
- Handle prior authorization requests for medications, diagnostic tests, and procedures.
Administrative Duties:
- Assist with updating patient records and processing documentation accurately and in a timely manner.
- Schedule appointments, coordinate patient flow, and ensure efficient clinic operations.
- Maintain accurate and complete patient charts and medical records in accordance with regulatory standards.
- Answer phone calls, assist patients with inquiries, and communicate effectively with medical staff.
Clinical Support:
- Prepare and maintain medical equipment for examinations and medical procedures.
- Sterilize and disinfect medical instruments and maintain a clean and organized examination area.
- Assist with ordering and stocking medical supplies as needed.
- Perform basic laboratory tests and procedures under the direction of physicians.
Collaboration & Communication:
- Collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to ensure high-quality patient care.
- Ensure tasks are completed efficiently, adhering to practice policies and guidelines.
Required Qualifications:

Medical Assistant Certification: Certification is required (e.g., CMA, RMA, or similar recognized certifications).

Basic Life Support (BLS): Current BLS certification required.

Experience: Previous experience as a Medical Assistant, preferably in an Internal Medicine or Primary Care setting.

Skills:
- Proficiency in rooming patients, taking vital signs, and performing routine clinical duties, such as EKGs.
- Strong administrative skills for managing patient records, prior authorizations, and appointment scheduling.
- Excellent communication skills for working with patients and the healthcare team.

Vaccination Requirements:
- COVID-19 vaccination (including booster) and 2024-2025 flu vaccine are required at the time of submission (declinations are not accepted).
- If the candidate does not have the current flu vaccine, an attestation stating they will receive it prior to the start date will be accepted.

Location:
- Local candidates within 25 miles of Needham, MA are preferred.
- Candidates who have worked perm/travel for any Beth Israel facility within the past year are not eligible for this role.
Job Details:
- Shifts: 8-hour day shifts, Monday through Friday, starting at 8:00 AM.
- Hours per Week: 40 hours guaranteed.
- Contract Length: 13 weeks with potential extension based on performance and facility needs.
