Job Summary:The intent of this job description is to provide a summary of the major duties and responsibilities performed in this job. Incumbents may be requested to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically presented in this description.Medical Assistants are integral in-patient support, providing information, services, and assistance. Their role spans clinical and administrative tasks, aiding physicians in patient care while managing clerical duties and ensuring medical record security. They maintain medical supplies, perform preventive equipment maintenance, and manage stock. Additionally, Medical Scribes play a pivotal role as personal data assistants to healthcare providers, ensuring accurate patient documentation, collaborating with care teams, and improving healthcare quality.Ability to work 4 x 10 hour shifts Mon-Sunday variable schedule. Weekend shifts are 5 hours.Essential Job Duties: Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.Recording vital signs and measurements, entering patient data into electronic health records.Preparing patients for exams, administering medications and injections as prescribed.Collecting and processing laboratory samples, placing orders for tests.Communicating with pharmacies, labs, and radiology departments.Managing clinical paperwork, triaging phone calls, and maintaining exam room cleanliness.Assisting with clinical paperwork and maintaining workstations.Placing orders, completing tasks directed by providers, and cooperating with the care team.Reviewing patient charts, researching medical records, and transcribing patient encounters accurately.Documenting procedures, medications, and care plans as directed.Communicating with the care team for follow-up and coordination of patient care.Providing patient education materials as needed.Required education and experience: The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or ability required.Minimum Education required:High School Diploma or equivalent (GED).A Medical Assistant diploma or certificate of completion from a medical assistant training program is preferred.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification/CPR certification preferred.Minimum Experience Required:Experience in working with Primary Care, Urgent Care, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics, Women's Health, Geriatrics a plus.Knowledge of Electronic Medical Records (EMR). Preferably: EPIC EMR.Minimum Knowledge and Skills Required:Bilingual in Spanish is a plus, but not required.Knowledge of medical terminology.Ability to type 65+ words per minute.Ability to communicate effectively and congenially with patients and staff members in person, over the phone, and via email.Ability to exercise tact, initiative, and good judgment when interacting with patients and staff.Ability to record observations and notes completely, accurately, literately, and concisely.Ability to learn and code for Hierarchical Condition Categories (HCCs).Ability to accept supervision and feedback.Understand HCCs and Medicare.Familiarity with proper procedures for disposing of used supplies.Capable of observing the general physical condition of patients to identify signs of abnormalities.Proficient in recording observations and notes in a complete, accurate, literate, and concise manner.Demonstrate understanding of organizational principles, planning, records management, and general administration practices.Exhibit attributes of dependability, adaptability, and confidentiality.
