Medical Assistant Street Medicine
Pay: USD 20.00 per hour or $41,600 per year
Shift: 7 AM 3:30 PM (may vary slightly +/- 30 minutes)
Location: Near the Flower & Fashion Districts
This faith-based healthcare facility in LA exists to heal and restore the health and hope of homeless and underserved communities. If you want to make a difference in the lives of people who have little to nothing, this is an ideal opportunity. This position involves working on a mobile medical unit and a multi-disciplinary team to provide transitional primary care to the unsheltered homeless individuals living within Los Angeles County.
As an MA, you will be delivering services directly to patients experiencing homelessness in their own environment such as under bridges, in encampments and on the street. This is an exciting opportunity to pioneer the field of street medicine in Los Angeles, CA, home to the largest unsheltered homeless population in the United States. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, the Medical Assistant will perform in the provision of direct patient care by performing routine patient care procedures and technical/clerical support services. Expect to document all specialties in the Electronic Health Record (EHR) and assist with more administrative responsibilities. And lastly, you'll be expected to demonstrate compassion and respect, and be proactive in managing patients expectations.
Required Qualifications
- Medical Assistant certificate along with a high school diploma or equivalent
- BLS/CPR certificate
- Strong interpersonal skills, clerical, and computer skills
- Bilingual: English & Spanish
Preferred Qualifications (not required)
- A minimum of 1 year experience as a back office Medical Assistant
- Street Medicine experience a plus
- Venipuncture experience
- Open to New Grad Medical Assistant Knowledge of Medical Terminology
Responsibilities
- Perform patient intake (i.e. vitals, chief complaints)
- Perform all requested orders (i.e. vaccines, medication administration, labs, etc.) in order to prepare for provider visit
- Perform patient intake and document intake into EHR (for all specialties)
- Maintain patient care areas clean and stocked. Includes assisting with supply/med/vaccine inventory/logs.
- Schedule follow-up appointments and "no-shows"
- Function as a patient advocate by ensuring patient concerns are resolved and/or addressed in a timely manner
- Provides patient care in a manner that is both non-discriminatory and non-judgmental
- Performs other related duties as assigned
