SOME (So Others Might Eat) exists to help homeless and poor individuals and families in Washington, DC. Our more than 30 programs throughout the district provide comprehensive services that lead to mental and physical health, continued sobriety, job training, living-wage employment, and affordable housing. We meet immediate needs with food, clothing, and healthcare and offer the tools one needs to live with hope, dignity, and greater independence.
Compensation: We offer our employees a competitive compensation and benefits package that reflects our organizational culture, mission, and core values. The hourly rate for this position is $20.05 per hour.
SOME (So Others Might Eat) is currently seeking Certified Medical Assistants to join our on-call staff. On-call employees work as needed to cover shifts, fill in for staff during vacations and holidays, and sometimes fill in to facilitate groups.
COVID-19 Considerations: In alignment with DC Health, COVID-19 vaccinations and boosters are mandated for personnel working in SOME’s healthcare-designated programs, which currently include Medical, Dental, Population Health, Behavioral Health Services (BHS), Exodus House, Jordan House, Kirwan House, Keuhner Place, Leland Place, and Mary Claire House. Schedule: Work as needed. Shifts may vary. **MUST HAVE DAYTIME AVAILABILITY**
**Medical Assistants MUST be available to work daytime shifts and MUST hold an active DC or National medical assistant certification through an accredited agency**
Location: 60 O Street, NW - Washington, DC 20001
Required: HS Diploma/GED; 2 years of healthcare experience in a primary care, acute care, or ambulatory clinic.
Required License/Certification: Valid Driver's license. CPR/First Aid; Medical Assistant Certification; You must be certified in the District of Columbia. You must be willing to undergo a criminal background check and FBI clearance and other pre-employment screenings such as a drug test.
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities Required:
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Transporting clients/residents safely in SOME vehicles, as needed.
- Ability to set clear boundaries with staff and clients as a professional representative of the organization.
- Ability to communicate and document incident reports, monitoring, and observation notes/logs as required by the program.
- Ability to interpret, monitor, and document medical information (Medication Monitoring knowledge).
- Ability to work independently and execute sound judgment.
Expected Contributions
Clinical Care:
- Record and monitor patients' vital signs.
- Conduct phlebotomy procedures.
- Administer injections and vaccines as prescribed by the physician.
- Carry out patient discharges according to physician instructions and provide discharge education.
- Perform basic patient care tasks within the defined scope of practice.
- Address patient queries and support healthcare professionals during procedures.
Administrative:
- Aid in telephone inquiries.
- Complete necessary medical documentation.
- Manage vaccine and medication orders and inventory.
- Procure and organize medical supplies.
- Maintain daily logs and update medical records systematically.
Physical Demands: Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds. Requires looking at a computer screen for several hours a day. May be required to sit for long periods.
