About the Job
The Medical Director will drive the acute care at home program's clinical vision and lead the virtual hospital team to achieve excellent clinical performance, patient experience, and outcomes while also advancing clinical innovation and the overall program success strategy. The Medical Director oversees physicians and advanced practice providers in the Home Hospital command center and ensures provision of high-quality virtual hospital care. In addition to a leadership role, the Medical Director will provide direct clinical care as a virtual hospitalist at least 0.5 FTE upon program launch. The Medical Director is expected to demonstrate exceptional clinical, leadership, strategic planning, critical thinking, patient relations, organizational, and time management skills. The ideal candidate is passionate about transformative virtual care solutions, innovating clinical best practice, and driving exceptional patient-centered care.
To launch the program, he/she will also work in collaboration with BMC and BU leaders and stakeholders, as well as BUMG leaders towards alignment of strategic plans, execution of operational goals and initiatives related to the launch and management of Boston Medical Center's acute care at home program. This individual will also focus on ensuring that the work to develop and launch the program reflects the philosophy and mission, and achieves the standards set by Boston Medical Center.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Performs all necessary clinical and administrative tasks required of a medical provider. Leads the design of the clinical model, policies, program eligibility, and strategic plan. Chairs the clinical operations workgroup/oversight committee to oversee virtual hospital operations, initiatives, and clinical priorities. Works in partnership with the Clinical Operations Director and Director of Nursing to manage the day-to-day operations of the virtual hospital. Oversees and coordinates the supervision of Virtual Hospital Physicians and Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) through team assignments, chart review, mentoring, and other means. Evaluates the performance of medical providers and regularly provides feedback on teamwork, professionalism, and indicators related to clinical compliance, regulation, and fiscal performance. Conducts regular meetings with individual providers to assess job satisfaction and well-being, and offers resources and support as necessary. Identifies and provides assistance to providers in need of performance improvement, quality of care enhancements, support, or training. Ensures adequate provider staffing, plans for appropriate medical staffing levels, and identifies staffing and recruitment needs. Coordinates the schedules of medical providers and advanced practice providers with the Virtual Hospital Administrator. Leads the recruitment, interviewing, hiring, and onboarding of new medical providers, with a focus on identifying individuals who are a good fit for the virtual hospital setting. Participates in the completion and evaluation of safety event reports as required, and promptly discusses any areas of heightened concern with the CMO, medical review, or quality committee.
Introduces, updates, and advocates for clinical guidelines and standards of care within the medical provider team. Communicates with providers via email, meetings, one-on-one sessions, and other means to keep them informed of new virtual hospital developments and initiatives. Leads efforts to partner with clinical leaders at referral sites to garner support for the virtual hospital program among referring stakeholder groups, including physicians, care management, nursing, patients, and families. Serves as a point of contact for patient acquisition questions and troubleshooting. Represents medical providers on committees and helps manage the day-to-day clinical operations of the medical command center. Represents virtual hospital activities and initiatives to community agencies, partners, and stakeholders as needed. Attends staff and management meetings, including all-staff and site-staff meetings, provider meetings, and others as required, such as clinical operations committee, quality and safety committee, and management team meetings. Also manages regulatory pathways and interacts with applicable agencies on the local, state, and federal level. Establishes a collaborative environment for teamwork and inter-professional collaboration to ensure an integrated approach to patient care. Engages providers, nursing, pharmacy, and other stakeholders in problem-solving and decision-making to expand and strengthen virtual hospital programs.

EXPERIENCE
Minimum of 5 years of provider experience at attending level
Physician leadership and hospitalist experience required
Experience managing home care delivery programs preferred
