About the Job
Major Responsibilities:
- Executor of strategy, accountable to working with other leaders and leveraging data to develop strategies to achieve results/meet strategic goals.
- Manages site medical directors. Accountable for the performance and results of multiple related teams. Develops area plans, including business and production to meet objectives. Decisions are guided by resource availability and AH objectives. Provides clinical leadership to physicians and APCs, including participation in the annual review process for APCs. Leads and implements change.
- HR Management responsibility: Resolution of contracting issues. Adjudication of issues with medical staff. Involvement with employment issues related to physician behaviors or performance. Accountable for hiring site medical directors/lead physician. Coaches, develops, and guides site medical director/leads medical group to support system mission, values, and core culture beliefs. Contribute to the development and implementation of engagement action plans to drive engagement target results.
- Budgeting responsibility: Develop and lend support to achieving budgetary targets assigned to operational leaders.
- Strategic planning responsibilities: Workforce development, succession planning, identifying new lines of service.
- Clinical Quality Responsibility: Define, implement, and monitor clinician operations throughout the division to bring about highly reliable, safe and operationally excellent workflows. Collaborates with region APC leader to maintain practice standards for division APCs. Ensures accountability to strong balanced scorecard performance for scope of designated hospitals. Execute standards of practice as defined by HBS leadership to assure continuity of care standards.
- Patient Experience Responsibility: Ensures all department sites within the state are meeting/exceeding established benchmarks in Patient Experience as a roll up score. Works with other leaders to develop training and interventions to ensure a more satisfactory patient experience.
- Growth responsibility: Accountable to achieve annual financial budgets and clinician productivity metrics. Works with MW region service line leaders to maintain and grow site relationships. Responsible for establishing standards for operational performance, patient access, referral management and adhering to terms of contracts. Partners with CMOs and service line leaders to develop and implement strategic initiatives for care model innovation. Partners with Population Health to achieve system goals and benchmarks associated with patient outreach and care coordination.
- Operational effectiveness responsibility: Annual review of site medical directors and goal development. Regular reviews with site medical directors of site performances associated with clinical quality, safety, patient experience, budget performance, billing/coding, hiring/retention, and engagement. Achieve roll up targets for engagement and retention. Executing standards of staffing and clinician productivity. Leveraging resources to enhance team-based care concepts.
- Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which include interviewing and selection of new employees, promotions, staff development, performance evaluations, compensation changes, resolution of employee concerns, corrective actions, terminations, and overall employee morale.
- Develops and recommends operating and capital budgets and controls expenditures within approved budget objectives.
- Responsible for understanding and adhering to the organization's Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to the organization's business.
Licensure, Registration, and/or Certification Required:
- Medicine and Surgery, MD-DO license issued by the state in which the team mate practices.
Education Required:
- Doctorate Degree in Medicine.
Experience Required:
- Typically requires 7 years of experience in management in overseeing physician practices, medical administration and attained board certification in a clinical field.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Required:
- Demonstrated excellence in clinical care and superior performance in physician leadership roles which includes quality and utilization management, clinical effectiveness and outcomes, outcomes measurement, clinical staff development, case management and clinical protocol development.
- Thorough knowledge and understanding of current trends in health care delivery, including the development of alternative delivery systems, care management, managed care, physician practice models, physician payment issues and access to health care.
- Advanced knowledge of and skills in developing, planning and implementing long term strategies and plans.
- Demonstrated analytical skills in organization, planning, and the development of long-range plans.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills to successfully interact with physicians and employees at all levels throughout the organization and within the community. Demonstrated success in developing positive physician relationships and collaborations.
- Excellent skills in problem solving, conflict resolution, negotiation and diplomacy.
- Proficiency in the Microsoft Office Suite or similar products.
- Willingness to maintain a part-time medical practice.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions:
- Will generally be exposed to a normal office environment.
- This position requires travel so will be exposed to weather and road conditions.
- May be exposed to human blood and body fluids, so therefore must wear protective clothing as required.
- May be exposed to mechanical, electrical, chemical and explosive hazards.
- Must have functional speech, vision, smell, touch and hearing.
- Must be able to operate all equipment essential in performing the job.
