- The Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead (MLS Lead) or Medical Laboratory Technician Lead (MLT Lead) functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for the performance of clinical laboratory testing that pertains to patient care and diagnosis.
- Performs routine and special laboratory procedures, quality control, preventative maintenance, minor equipment repairs, inventory control, and statistical compilation.
- Participates in the quality assurance and performance improvement tasks, new employee training and proficiency testing as assigned.
- Functions as a professional who assumes responsibility and accountability for leading a shift or co-leading a department.
- Displays technical expertise necessary to ensure timely and accurate results of laboratory procedures.
- Ensure specimens are obtained and processed in accordance with laboratory guidelines.
- Demonstrate proper communication skills to relate pertinent data or information about the patient or laboratory sample to appropriate care provider.
- Attains required competency and demonstrates the ability to follow procedural directions and protocols.
- Exhibits problem-solving skills to troubleshoot and evaluate critical laboratory results.
- Able to prioritize and organize workload and assist other coworkers to maintain productivity.
- Demonstrates proper infection control practices, proper patient identification, performs proper prompt specimen transport.
- Promotes consensus building and applies techniques of conflict resolution and conduct improvement.
- Assists with hiring and training new staff members
- Ensures department documentation is complaint with hospital and regulatory guidelines.
- Leads and participates in quality assurance, performance improvement, laboratory education, new employee training, proficiency testing and staff scheduling when assigned.
Job Requirements:
- Baccalaureate Degree or Associate Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Lab Technician, or a chemical, physical, or biological science.
- Current knowledge of clinical laboratory techniques and principles
- ASCP, AMT, or equivalent certification. Certification within a specific area, i.e. M(ASCP), H(ASCP), C(ASCP) qualifies.
- Three (3) years of clinical laboratory experience as a Medical Technologist, Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Medical Lab Technician within a clinical laboratory.
- Previous Microbiology Experience
Preferred Job Requirements:
- Five (5) years of clinical laboratory experience
