About the Job
OHSU is seeking a board-certified or board-eligible diagnostic medical physicist to join a dynamic team of five physicists and two medical physics residents. Our group provides high-quality, comprehensive support to Radiology and associated departments utilizing diagnostic imaging equipment. Medical physicist duties include testing and ensuring the safe use of medical imaging equipment, the education of graduate students, staff, and residents in radiation physics, and the support of OHSU’s service, clinical, and educational missions.

OHSU is the state’s only academic medical center, providing opportunities to work on advanced equipment and participate in graduate and resident teaching. Our team is deeply involved in supporting the newly opened Molecular Imaging and Therapy clinic assisting with personalized patient dosimetry for new molecular therapies. We also actively collaborate with physicians and technologists in the optimization of CT protocols and incorporating new technologies into clinical use.

Function/Duties of Position:- Perform ongoing testing for performance and safety standards pertinent to radiological imaging equipment, ensuring that equipment meets the standards set by regulatory agencies and equipment accreditation agencies. Ensure that imaging equipment is operating according to accepted standards of practice for image quality and radiation safety.
- Provide radiation safety support services to contracted partners outside of OHSU. Strong knowledge of Oregon State regulations concerning ionizing radiation in medical imaging.
- Teach and mentor medical physics residents in the OHSU Diagnostic Imaging Physics Residency Program. Teach and mentor graduate students in the Oregon Medical Physics Program. This includes the Commission on Accreditation of Medical Physics Education Programs (CAMPEP) required diagnostic imaging and medical physics courses, as determined by the OMPP program director. Occasional teaching of clinical staff, including technologists, physicians, nurses, etc. Occasional teaching of physics/radiation safety to other faculty and staff that use radiation producing equipment at OHSU. These duties include a faculty appointment at OHSU.
- Provide medical physics services outside of Diagnostic/Interventional Radiology (off-hill Clinics, Cardiology, Primate Center, Radiation Oncology) and to OHSU imaging partners.
- Develop and supervise ongoing imaging equipment quality control programs related to regulatory agencies, equipment accreditation agencies, and accepted standards of medical practice.
M.S. in medical physics or related field
Has RSO experience/ is RSO eligible and will undergo necessary training per NRC requirements.
Strong knowledge concerning operating principles, radiation safety principles, and testing standards for a large majority of equipment types: x-ray imaging, CR, DR, mammography, CT, MR, US, nuclear medicine, and PET
Board eligible in diagnostic medical physics by ABR. Eligible for state licensure as medical physicist in Oregon, membership in appropriate medical physicist organization(s)
Compliance with Code of Conduct, Respect in the workplace and Applicable policies, procedures and agreements related to position, department or OHSU as a whole
Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
- ABR certification in diagnostic medical physics
- Five years diagnostic medical physics experience
- Previous experience serving as RSO
- Meets requirements for ACR accreditation physicist in all imaging modalities used at OHSU.
- MQSA certified mammography physicist.
