About the Job
The Medical Receptionist attends to patients in person and on the phone. Coordinates and organizes appointments and documentation to facilitate the smooth running of the healthcare environment and support delivery of quality patient care. Reports to Practice Manager.
- Welcomes and greets all patients and visitors in a prompt, courteous and helpful manner in person or over the phone.
- Upon each patient visit, obtains accurate pertinent patient demographic information and updates in computer system as necessary. Either scans or copies new patients' driver's license/ID card, and front and back of insurance card for scanning into electronic health record. Enters appropriate comments. Sets patient to "arrive" in electronic health record.
- Requests payment at time of service. Prints and provides receipt to patient. Registers payment in computer and reconciles all payments at day's end. Distributes Hardship form to patients; notes such in additional comments.
- Answers multi-line telephone, schedules appointments, takes messages, and handles referral requests as necessary according to policy.
- Maintains operations by following and remaining updated and current on the electronic health record and office policies and procedures.
- Assists with printing and/or copying of medical records and other materials as needed. Documents appropriately.
- Verifies PCP and insurance eligibility and documents verification number in comments for each visit, when required.
Requirements:
High school diploma or GED required.
At least one year of current front office experience, preferably in a medical office setting
· Strong phone and computer skills with working knowledge of practice based medical office processes and procedures
· Demonstrated communication skills (written and verbal)
· Knowledge of insurance guidelines
· Knowledge of medical information and electronic medical records/systems
· Ability to communicate effectively with a diverse group of individuals.
· Ability to organize and prioritize work as required.
