Starting Hourly Pay: $17.69
Work Location: Employment will begin at Mesa, AZ site and will transfer to the Guadalupe, AZ site when completed in January 2025.
Job DescriptionThe Medical Records Clerk has the primary responsibility for maintaining the Health Information & Files including electronic health records. The MR Clerk will ensure the highest quality and level of health care is obtained for all patients. The employee will ensure Native Health’s compliance with requirements of the Privacy Act, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and the Release of Information policy. The Medical Record Clerk will represent the company professionally and positively to enhance and promote the core values and mission of the organization, always exercising utmost discretion, diplomacy and tact in patient/staff interactions.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Medical Record Control
- Process request for release of information from the medical record.
- Monitors process of scanning documents into electronic health records.
- Provide excellent customer service to visitors, patients, and staff in person and on the phone.
- Supports the organization as needed.
QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND REQUIREMENTS
- High school graduate or equivalent and two years’ specialized experience and/or training in working with medical or confidential patient records.
- This position requires some lifting, bending and reaching up in order to perform the required duties.
- Must have the ability to lift over and/or more objects up to 25 pounds.
- Advanced computer skills including knowledge of software applications for Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access.
- Must understand the Native American community and culture, as well as experience working with people from diverse ethnic groups and various backgrounds.
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus.
Standard Employment Requirements
- Must possess a valid and unrestricted Arizona driver’s license (within 30 days of hire if applicant is from out-of-state) with no DUI/DWI or reckless driving convictions in the last five years. No more than two at-fault accidents in the last three years. Must maintain a valid Arizona driver’s license during employment. Must be insurable under NATIVE HEALTH’s liability auto policy.
- Must pass a criminal background check and obtain a Class I Fingerprint Clearance Card within the initial ninety (90) calendar days of employment and retain a valid card while employed with NATIVE HEALTH.
- Must pass substance abuse testing upon employment and submit to random testing during employment.
- Must provide an updated immunization (IZ) record at the time of employment.
- Must have a current (within 12 months) Tuberculosis (TB) skin report upon employment and provide an annual update.
- Must obtain BLS certified within (90) calendar days of employment and maintain certification during employment.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Possess excellent customer service, reception and telephone skills.
- Must be well organized and a self-starter.
- Must be willing to work at any location, other than the assigned site if necessary and be agreeable to work evenings and/or weekends if necessary.
- Knowledge of requirements of the Privacy Act, Freedom of Information Act and the Drug/Alcohol Abuse Act and Release of Information policy.
- Ability to maintain strictest confidentiality of patients’ information; adheres to all HIPAA guidelines/regulations.
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and medical terminology.
- Knowledge of quality assurance system and methods.
- Ability to work with internal and external customers under pressure.
- Knowledge of the cultural and social background of the Native Americans and other patients of the NATIVE HEALTH service population
- Must be highly flexible to accommodate the changing needs of the department
- Skills in utilizing Resource Patient Management System (RPMS) and Electronic Health Records (EHR) a plus.
- Ability to understand, and execute complex written and verbal instructions
- Ability to communicate in Spanish is a plus.
- Ability to work under rigorous pressure and meet close deadlines.
