SUMMARY
Within the scope of practice as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Medical Technologist), and in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations and accreditation requirements, perform a wide variety of laboratory procedures, records and controls on tissue, blood, exudates and other body fluids in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology, Coagulation, Clinical Microscopy, Immunology and other tests to obtain data for the diagnosis, prevention and treatment of disease. Performs phlebotomy as required. Adheres to the professional standards of the American Society of Clinical Pathology.

ATTRIBUTES
- Required: Graduate of an accredited college or university with a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Medical Technology, Chemistry, Biology , related field, or meets the educational requirements of NYS for licensure.
- Required: Current Clinical Laboratory Technologist NYS License or Permit
- Preferred: American Society of Clinical Pathologists Certification.
- Preferred: At least one year (12 months) experience in a hospital laboratory.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Evaluates requested procedures to determine the suitability of specimen for analysis, requesting new specimen if determined to be unusable. Prepares specimens for analysis, ensuring that the physiologic state of the properties is maintained.
- Performs laboratory procedures on tissue, blood, exudates and other body fluids in Chemistry, Blood Bank, Microbiology, Hematology, Coagulation, Clinical Microscopy, and Immunology in accordance with state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, professional standards, laboratory procedures and hospital policies. Participates in proficiency testing and ensures samples are handled in the same manner as patient samples.
- Evaluates patient results to ensure correlation with the patient’s condition, age, sex , diagnosis and other pertinent clinical data. Issues laboratory reports and reports results to appropriate individuals. Maintains continuity, quality and accuracy of documentation to ensure results are properly and timely reported.
- Calibrates, standardizes, adjusts, and maintains instruments. Verifies correct instrument operation using established procedures and quality control checks . Recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; locates and implements corrections. Identifies the cause of common problems and makes simple repairs; conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products, and maintains proper records for quality control reports. Documents all corrective actions when indicated.
- Directs and supervises the work of assigned students, phlebotomists, lab assistants and technicians. Reports to Clinical Laboratory Technologist (Medical Technologist) II, Operations Manager, Quality and Safety Manager and Administrative Laboratory Director.

M - Medium Work - Exerting 20 to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10 to 25 pounds of force frequently, and/or greater than negligible up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects; Requires frequent walking, standing or squatting.For disease specific care programs refer to the program specific requirements of the department for further specifications on experience and educational expectations, including continuing education requirements.

PAY RANGE:
$26.50 - $42.00The listed base pay range is a good faith representation of current potential base pay for a successful full time applicant. It may be modified in the future and eligible for additional pay components. Pay is determined by factors including experience, relevant qualifications, specialty, internal equity, location, and contracts.
