Job DescriptionCompass Government Solutions is seeking Medical Technologists who are interested in providing on-site support at the Danville, Illinois VA Medical Center. In preparation to bid on the associated government contract, we are seeking qualified candidates that are willing to be included in our proposal as an interested and skilled individual. As the Medical Technologist, your primary responsibility will be to test fluid and tissue samples to help physicians properly diagnose and treat their patients.
Job Requirements
• Perform a full range of automated and non-automated laboratory procedures in the areas of chemistry, urinalysis, hematology, serology,
bacteriology, and immunohematology according to established protocols.
• Evaluate the suitability of the specimen for analysis, requesting a new specimen if determined to be unusable. Prepares specimens for analysis;
ensuring that the physiologic states of the specimen properties are maintained.
• Selects, performs, evaluates, and monitors the performance of test procedures using manual and/or instrumental techniques in accordance with
established protocols. Recognizes and reacts to indicators of malfunction; locates and implements corrections.
• Conducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents, and products and maintains proper records for quality control reports.
• Calibrate, standardize, adjust, and maintain instruments on which trained. Verifies correct instrument operation using established procedures
and quality control checks and monitoring. Identifies the cause of common problems and makes simple repairs.
• Evaluate the validity of data in relation to the test system and accepted assay procedures; correlate quantitative data with patient data (i.e.,
history, medications) to verify results.
• Performs additional tests to clarify or confirm abnormal patient results. Recognizes abnormal results that require immediate attention by the
physician and reports them directly.
• Responsible for the generation of laboratory results from the work area into the laboratory computer system
• Edit and verify results recorded into the computer system.
• Stock and maintain specialized supplies used in the work area.
• Accession and receive samples into the VA laboratory information system package for in-house
testing or send outs to reference laboratories.
• Perform phlebotomy to obtain patient specimens for laboratory testing including blood cultures and compatibility samples
• Must be able to work to work
o 1st Shift: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.
o 2nd Shift: Monday through Friday, 3:30 p.m. – Midnight
o Overtime on an as-needed basis
• Degree – bachelor’s degree
• Education – Graduate from a medical technology program accredited by the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Science
(NAACLS).
• Certification – Current certification/registration as determined by the American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or American Medical
Technologist (AMT).
• Experience: Minimum one-year experience within the past 5 years
• Certified in Basic Life Support (BLS) obtained or issued by the American Heart Association (AHA), an organization recognized by the AHA, or
Military Training Network (MTN) and maintained during their work at the VA.
