The MT uses pre-analytic, analytic and post-analytic phases of the examination, such as judgment, specimen acceptability and clinical condition to examine materials or specimens taken from the human body to provide information or materials in the diagnosis, prevention or treatment of a disease or the assessment of a medical condition as required by a physician.
Routinely performs clinical analyses in chemistry, hematology, coagulation, microbiology, and urinalysis by initializing a variety of methodologies and instrumentation according to laboratory policies and procedures and in accordance with all regulatory agency requirements.
Responsibilities:What You Will Do
- The MT is responsible for collecting receiving and processing of specimens.
- Verifies specimens are correctly and completely labeled upon receipt
- Evaluates specimens for appropriately and takes necessary corrective action and documents accordingly
- Prioritizes specimens processing based on established priorities
- Aliquots specimens according to established protocols
- Performs all aspects of analytical testing appropriate for the specific laboratory section
- The MT is responsible for analyzing laboratory samples for technical review and interpretation
- Evaluates quality control and performs maintenance and on instrumentation and equipment
- Prepares and maintains adequate stock of reagents, standards, and control materials for the performance of testing at assigned workstations and notifies supervisor of any shortages or problems.
- Recognizes test system performance problems and takes necessary corrective action
- Reviews and evaluates results for completeness, correctness and consistency within defined test
- Reports all test results in the laboratory information system according to laboratory policies and procedures, within stated turnaround times, and follows appropriate backup procedures during computer downtimes.
- The MT is responsible for establishing and monitoring programs that ensure data accuracy and quality assurance
- Reviews pending logs and follow-ups to ensure pending tests are completed and/or canceled when appropriate
- Initiates and documents troubleshooting and problem solving to resolve issues.
- Analyzing lab reports for accuracy
- Stores specimens and related materials (blood, slides, etc.) according to protocols for location and duration
- Responsible for ensuring the laboratory is inspection ready at all times.

Qualifications:
Education
- Certification with American Medical Technologist (AMT)
- American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP)
- CPR preferred
- Issued by (Governing Body)
- AMT- American Medical Technologist
- ASCP – American Society for Clinical Pathology
- NCA - National Credentialing Agency
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college in medical technology, clinical laboratory science, allied health technologies or science
- Must have a degree in Chemical, Physical, or Biological Science or Medical Laboratory Science from an accredited institution in accordance with CLIA
- Foreign educated candidates must provide a detailed credential evaluation from the IERF (International Education Research Foundation).
- United States educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript
- Experience not required
- Certified with in the year of date of hire for Biological Degree(s)
- Certified within six months of date of hire for MLS/MT training programs
- Previous experience in a hospital laboratory or clinical laboratory preferred
- Ability to analyze test results for accuracy, acceptability and to act on critical values in a timely manner.
- Ability to troubleshoot and perform maintenance on analyzers.
- Ability to perform clinical diagnostic testing on patients samples working in a stat environment.
- Basic computer skills required.
