MEDICATION AIDE
POSITION SUMMARY:
Responsible for providing direct resident care and supervision of residents' needs per individualized service/care plan, monitors residents for change of condition and signs/symptoms of illness according to federal and state laws and regulations and according to the policies of the Community. Responsible for communicating and documenting resident changes or concerns to the Health Services Director. Assist in the supervision of resident assistants.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist residents with medications as ordered by their physician(s).
- Documents all functions related to medication management as required by regulation and community protocols as defined in the medication training program.
- Obtains, receives, and stores medication(s) from the pharmacy.
- Participates in the medication training program and demonstrates competency per the competency checklist.
- Maintains order, and cleanliness in the medication storage area.
- Assist residents with daily baths, dressing, grooming, dental care, bowel and bladder functions, preparation for activities within the community, reminders of medical appointments, and basic room care.
- Provide functions as directed by supervisor including daily and ongoing records including vital signs, weight, and measure residents, and observe and report the presence of skin breakdowns; review care plans daily; report changes in resident conditions to supervisor; and record all necessary charting entries and report all accidents and incidents.
- Prepare residents for meals and snacks and perform after-meal resident care.
- Maintain resident confidentiality; treat residents with kindness, dignity, and respect; know and comply with Residents’ Rights rules; and promptly report all resident complaints, accidents, and incidents to the supervisor.
- Assist in proper admission, transfer, and discharge of residents, inventory resident possessions, and report defective equipment to administration.
- Understand and use Universal Precautions and follow established infection control, hazardous communication, and other safety rules; ensure the cleanliness of assigned residents’ rooms; properly maintain and record resident restraints; and promptly report all violations of safety and sanitation rules to the supervisor.
- Attend and participate in orientation, training, educational activities, and staff meetings.
- Any other tasks, assignments, projects, or requests as deemed by management.

- Organizes and utilizes time appropriately toward accomplishing assigned tasks; requires minimal supervision

- Displays ability/willingness to learn new skills and to teach others.
- Interacts in a professional manner with Residents, the public, and co-workers. Works cooperatively with management. Displays willingness to assist co-workers when a situation requires.
- Adequate and clear English speaking and writing ability; able to communicate effectively.
- Ability to spend long periods on feet and to ambulate quickly.
- Is free of non-treated communicable diseases.
- Ability to work safely and to recognize potentially dangerous situations.
- Ability/willingness to follow all policies and procedures.
- Is neat, accurate, dependable, and keeps work/space clean.
- Ability/willingness to work longer than eight (8) hour shifts, to work holidays or overtime, to work a seven (7) day schedule.
- Ability to lift to 50 pounds occasionally; 35 pounds regularly.
- Routinely requires pushing, pulling, bending, walking, reaching, and stooping.
- High School education preferred.
- Must be able to squat, reach, and stretch without distress, Must be able to tolerate extended periods of walking, and standing.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
Competency of medication delegation and management. Successful completion of medication administration/supervision program provided at the facility. 18 – 24 months experience in a similar position, or a healthcare-related field, CPR/First Aid certified preferred.
EDUCATION:
Twelve (12) plus years of education preferred—attendance at mandatory in-service training. Maintain CPR/First Aid Certification. Meet in-service training hours required for job classification and position.
