The Role: As a Medication Specialist with MHSA, you'll be integral in advancing our mission to deliver high-quality person-centered services. You'll take on critical tasks that directly impact the communities we serve by ensuring safe, effective, and BSAS-compliant distribution, storage, management, and self-administration of medications for participants of the Answer House Program. You will play a key role in helping individuals in their recovery journey, contributing to the overall goals of our substance use treatment program.
Key Responsibilities:
- Maintain open and professional communication with clients, staff, and external contacts.
- Ensure the privacy and confidentiality of clients and staff in accordance with applicable laws, regulations, and MHSA policies.
- Gain a comprehensive understanding of Answer House Program policies and the philosophy of treatment.
- Conduct thorough assessments of clients' treatment plans and manage prescribed medications.
- Oversee the self-administration of medications as per treatment plans, prescriber instructions, and BSAS regulations.
- Collaborate with treatment teams to discuss client progress and medication-related concerns.
- Coordinate with external healthcare providers to ensure continuity of care upon discharge.
- Ensure appropriate storage, disposal, and record-keeping of all medications on-site.
- Complete all required documentation, including self-administration records, medication changes, client responses, and discharge plans.
- Comply with BSAS regulations and MHSA policies regarding medication management.
- Complete BSAS Required Notifications, as needed.
- Develop and implement policies and procedures as directed by the Program Director.
- Attend required training sessions and comply with program data collection requirements.
- Abide by all MHSA policies regarding boundaries, confidentiality, and ethical standards.
What We're Looking For:
- High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's or Associate's Degree preferred.
- 1-2 years' experience in medication management; Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) preferred.
- Fundamental knowledge of substance abuse and its treatment.
- Familiarity with MA DPH/BSAS regulations is preferred.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with spreadsheets, databases, and word processors.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- CPR, AED, and First Aid Certification required (MHSA will provide training opportunities).
- Reliable attendance and punctuality.
- Valid driver's license and reliable personal transportation.
- Bilingual candidates preferred.
- Satisfactory CORI/SORI reports at all times while working for MHSA.
