Medicolegal Investigator-Pool - Rock County

About the Job
Pool staff are required to work four (4) twelve hour shifts per pay period (A pay period is two weeks).
1-shift in the office.
-Hours of work in the office are either 6:00am-6:00pm or 6:00pm-6:00am.
3-shifts are on call
-Pool Medicolegal Investigators are required to work two on call weeknight shifts per pay period. On-call weeknight coverage hours are designated as Monday through Thursday, starting at 6:00 p.m. and ending at 6:00 a.m. the following day.
-Pool Medicolegal Investigators are required to work one on call weekend shift per pay period. On-call weekend coverage hours are designated as Friday starting at 6:00 p.m. through Monday ending at 6:00 a.m.
-On-call hour duties include coverage of simultaneous calls, last minute shift vacancies, and other duties as assigned by the Director of Operations or Rock County Administration. Pool Medicolegal Investigators are required to respond to the office when on-call in less than 60 minutes from the initial call.
Compensation for on-call hours will be paid at a rate of $3.50 per hour while on call. If the pool Medicolegal Investigator is required to report to work while being on-call, the employee will be paid their regular rate of pay for time worked.
Additional hours may be available based on the staffing of the office.
Investigates and reports on the cause and manner of deaths; determines if a case falls under the Rock County Medical Examiner Department jurisdiction; and performs related work as required.
60% - Investigate death scenes to determine cause and manner of death in accordance with Wisconsin State Statutes.
-Investigate death scenes, take telephone reports of deaths where appropriate and reports findings to the pathologist to assist the determination of the cause and manner of death in accordance with Wisconsin State statues.
-Examines evidence at the scene to establish an initial assessment of the cause and manner of death as natural, suicidal, accidental, homicidal or undetermined.
-Assists in the identification of the decedent by examining the body , the scene of the death, and gathers additional information as needed.
-Collects and preserves physical evidence in accordance with the established chain of custody procedures.
-Notifies the next of kin personally or in conjunction with law enforcement, judicial agencies or chaplain service.
-Manages the removal of the body from the scene of death and the transport and accession to the morgue.35% - Obtains personal data and medical history on cases from hospital personnel, health care personnel, interviews with family, neighbors, friends and others, autopsies, etc. and issues appropriate documentation.

-Testifies in civil and criminal court cases on the results of investigations and other expert information.
-Prepares and issues death certificates, disinterment permits, subpoenas, and other legally binding documents for embalming and cremation.
-Assists at autopsies and subsequent cleaning, stocking and preparation of the morgue.
-Assists at autopsy with photographic duties, collection and documentation of evidence recovered at postmortem examination.
-Establishes and maintains effective working and public relations with various local and state law enforcement agencies, federal officers, county departments, and the public.
5% - Performs other duties as required.
