Responsible to: Director of Life Enrichment
Scope of Responsibility: The Memory Care Program Coordinator (MCPC) is responsible for the development and execution of the interdisciplinary programming schedule for the Memory Care neighborhoods, including recreational and social activities, according to state/federal regulations, memory care professional standards and the policies and procedures of Golden Years Homestead (GYH) Campus.
Essential Functions:
- Assist in administering the life enrichment programs that meet the psychological and activity needs of residents of the memory care neighborhoods, including creating diverse opportunities for meaningful pursuits, daily pleasures, life enrichment, exercise, friendships, social interaction, growth and learning, fun and enjoyment, personal routines and neighborhood rituals.
- Prepare the monthly life enrichment calendar for residents of the memory care neighborhoods, including programs designed for residents with dementia or memory care needs.
- Conduct most of the scheduled events included in the life enrichment calendar and coordinate the execution of events by other departments (nursing).
- Provide assist memory care residents in transport to life enrichment events off the memory care neighborhoods scheduled for the main resident population but will return to memory care neighborhoods to continue overseeing programming for residents who remain on the memory care neighborhood.
- Complete resident assessments and chart documentation as needed, including assessments (e.g. life history, MDS), activity notes/attendance, and care planning related to recreational needs.
- Perform delegated functions as directed by Director of Life Enrichment and monitor the quality of said functions through continual quality improvement.
- Assure resident’s rights are met, including the right to refuse or individualized treatment, and monitor the community response to resident concerns through continuous quality improvement.
- Flexible hours to accommodate special programming, evenings/weekends and willingness to work in all communities as needed.
- Make routine/scheduled visits to residents who may not participate in group activities as directed; assist room-bound residents by visiting with them, writing letter, running errands, and other activities as appropriate.
Position Requirements:
Education & Experience
- Certification in recreational programming, certification in dementia care, or other specialized Alzheimer’s or dementia care or programming training
- Experience in LTC or working with elderly.
- Must have special interest in working with people who have memory challenges
- Demonstrate creativity in memory care programming that keeps scheduled experiences enjoyable, meaningful, and dynamic (avoids stagnancy)
- High School Diploma or equivalent desirable but not required.
- Basic computer skill required.
- Must have a valid driver’s license in good standing.
