About the Job
Akeela is looking for a compassionate mental health clinician to work with patients, identifying mental health issues and either treating these issues or referring patients to other professionals. You should also be able to
work with patients' families where necessary.
To be successful as a therapist, you should have excellent interpersonal skills and show empathy while remaining professional. A good therapist identifies mental health issues and recommends the best course of action for the individual's needs.
KNOWLEDGE:
- Demonstrating the ability to identify and assessmental health clients
- Demonstrate an understanding of a variety ofdifferent mental health treatment approaches
- Demonstrate an understanding of the current researchliterature related to recommended practices in mental health treatment
- Demonstrate an understanding of multiple learningstrategies (e.g., instructions, demonstrations, role plays, critiques,traditional delivery of healing)
- Operations,services, and activities of a mental health program.
- Principles andtechniques of mental health counseling.
- Techniques ofobserving and assessing behavioral, emotional, social, psychological, andenvironmental problems.
- Principles andpractices of behavioral change and modification.
- Current crisisintervention, diagnostic, and therapeutic techniques.
- How and when torefer client to other agencies.
- Interpersonalskills using tact, patience, and courtesy.
- Assess clientsfor c0-0ccuring issues including substance abuse problems and provide specificsdiagnosis and treatment recommendations.
- Interpret and apply applicable federal, state, andlocal laws, codes and regulations
- Identify and obtain appropriate training to updateprofessional skills and maintain professional license.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- Meets at leastone of the following requirements for degree/certification:
- Advanced degree (masters-level or doctoral-level) inpsychology, social work, counseling, child guidance, nursing or similar field;or per Alaska Medicaid regulations.
- Prefer working knowledgeof treatment issues with particular emphasis on mental health, co-occurringdisorder
- Prefer experiencewith IBM compatible computers and Windows, Microsoft Office
- Prefer three (3) years experience in addictions, socialservices, mental health or related field.
