About the Job
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES include but are not limited to the following:
- DEMONSTRATES teamwork by carrying out routine and assigned tasks within the nursing care and hospital program.
- ASSURES MHT's tasks and documentation is accurate and complete
- ASSISTS in provision of maintaining a safe and therapeutic milieu by monitoring compliance with hospital rules, providing assistance with security and supportive man-power by assisting in control of patients who exhibit unacceptable behavior.
- DOCUMENTS patient's vital signs, witness statements related to occurrences, and observation findings of patients as requested by nurse.
- RECOGNIZES the impact of group contagion by behavior and demonstrates assistance with therapeutic interventions
- ASSISTS nurse with patient care tasks and the nurse or activity director with therapeutic interventions
- PERFORMS other duties and special projects as assigned
- DESIGNATES approved MHT to transport patients prn on discharge
- FLEXIBLE with work schedule when necessary to provide coverage when unable to obtain MHT coverage due to call ins, MD ordered LOS or 1:1
LEAD JOB FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES Additional responsibilities from the MHT role, include but are not limited to the following:
- DEMONSTRATES leadership traits by setting the example for other team members to follow
- PROVIDES 1x1 MHT education/coaching when performance gaps occur
- COORDINATES with DON, Educator, and/ or Medical Administrative Assistant to complete education around performance gaps that are trends among multiple teammates
- ASSISTS the charge nurse after an Occurrence to ensure all MHT witnesses have documented observations appropriately
- ATTENDS "Huddle" to ensure important information is obtained/provided
- COLLABORATES with leadership to ensure employee accountability and engagement
- Demonstrates teamwork by carrying out tasks within the hospital while assuring unit coverage through scheduling, working on unit, and communicating with staff.
- Assures MHT tasks are logged, charted or completed accurately and filed timely.
- Documents patient data (including items vital signs, personal belongings, groups) with routine checks to assure this data is completed and filed by all MHT staff within guidelines.
- Recognizes staff and patient patterns/cues that may require intervention to maintain appropriate unit coverage and a calm mental health hospital environment to include training and disciplinary actions with supporting documentation.
- Assists physicians, providers, nurses, social workers related to rounds, groups, and milieu maintenance and individual patient encounters.
- Schedules appropriate staff to transport patients as needed related to trips or discharge.
- Leads by example and provides education/coaching where any performance gaps may occur.
- Assist all nursing and MHT staff in gathering data and statements related to any incident occurrences.
- Attends and encourages all MHT staff to attend "Huddle," staff meetings, education, and all team engagement activities.
- Collaborate with leadership to ensure employee accountability and performance are maintained at a high level.
- Scheule MHT unit coverage through positive communication as needed to include daily and monthly schedule monitoring and entries.
- Performs additional duties as assigned or as they arise.
