About the Job
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced MEP Design Engineer to join our team. The MEP Design Engineer will be responsible for designing and coordinating mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems for a variety of construction projects. You will collaborate with architects, contractors, and other engineers to ensure that the MEP systems are integrated into the overall building design and meet the project requirements for safety, efficiency, and sustainability.
Responsibilities
- Design and Development:
- Develop detailed designs for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems, including HVAC, lighting, power distribution, water supply, and drainage systems.
- Use software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or other building information modeling (BIM) tools to create accurate and efficient MEP designs.
- Ensure designs comply with all applicable building codes, standards, and regulations.
- Project Coordination:
- Work closely with architects, civil engineers, structural engineers, and contractors to ensure MEP systems are properly integrated into the overall building design.
- Coordinate MEP designs with other disciplines to avoid clashes and ensure seamless integration.
- Attend design coordination meetings and provide technical input to ensure that all project objectives are met.
- Technical Calculations:
- Perform load calculations, energy modeling, and other technical assessments to ensure systems are designed for optimal performance and efficiency.
- Size equipment and select materials based on project specifications and performance requirements.
- Conduct system analysis to evaluate the impact of proposed MEP solutions on energy use and sustainability.
- Compliance and Standards:
- Ensure that all MEP systems comply with relevant building codes, safety standards, and environmental regulations.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest industry standards and innovations in MEP design and apply them to projects where applicable.
- Assist in the preparation of documentation required for building permits and regulatory approvals.
- Construction Support:
- Provide support during the construction phase by reviewing submittals, conducting site visits, and responding to RFIs (Requests for Information).
- Assist in resolving technical issues that arise during the installation of MEP systems and ensure systems are installed according to design specifications.
- Conduct inspections to verify that MEP systems are functioning properly and meet quality standards.
- Sustainability and Energy Efficiency:
- Incorporate energy-efficient and sustainable design principles into MEP systems to minimize environmental impact and reduce energy consumption.
- Explore alternative energy systems, such as solar or geothermal, and integrate them into the overall building design where applicable.
- Use energy modeling tools to assess the efficiency of MEP systems and recommend improvements.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 3+ years of experience in MEP design engineering for building projects.
- Proficiency in AutoCAD, Revit, and other MEP design software (BIM experience is a plus).
- Strong understanding of building codes, standards, and MEP system regulations.
- Experience with load calculations, energy modeling, and system sizing for HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
