A company in Carrollton is looking for a Metal Processing/Layout Employee. The Metal Processor/Layout is responsible for performing metal processing operations to support the fabrication process of structural steel parts according to customer specifications, blueprints, sketches, sales orders, verbal instructions, and other forms of instructions. Tasks include but are not limited to setting up and operating metal saws of several types, such as vertical and horizontal, reciprocating, and band saws. Marking and drilling holes to print specifications. The operator must handle, load, adjust, and unload the machines and operate peripheral equipment such as oxy-acetylene torch, plasma torch, etc. as required. Troubleshoots and detects malfunctions in machine operations such as worn or damaged tooling, etc. Communicate with co-workers regarding production runs, and maintain a safe, organized, and clean work environment.
The job may require overtime and a flexible schedule, reporting early and working late, including weekends occasionally with notice.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- The Metal processor/Layout should be skilled in metal fabrication, able to read shop drawings, and accurately cut compound angles to produce correct parts
- Safety procedures must be followed while handling heavy materials and operating tools and equipment to prevent injuries
- Move materials, measure, and mark tangents, set up the machine, cycle it, and inspect work visually and with measuring tools to ensure accuracy and meet specifications
- Operates hand-held plasma cutter, metal saw machines, and equipment including but not limited to a band saw and other related tools such as a skill saw, routers, portable band saw, hammers, drills and impact, tape measure, degree finders, and jigs
- Cuts metal parts by guiding the metal in the right direction and through the blades to obtain the correct cut and angle according to sales order, blueprints, sketches, verbal instructions, and other forms of instructions to meet customer specifications
- Troubleshooting processes; stops, adjusting, and restarts; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes
- Communicates machinery problems to technicians, reports quality issues to supervisors, and maintains production records. Requires frequent supervision for machine set-up.
- Implements and maintains 5's practices in his/her work area including in equipment according to company procedures.
- May be designated according to the product metal processing requirements as Roofing and Saw Operator, Saw Operator-Structures, Cut & Bend Operator-Playgrounds, or other designations asper company operation requirements.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the Manager or Supervisor.

Education and/or Experience:
- High School diploma or GED is strongly recommended.
Work Environment and Physical Requirements:
- This position is based in a plant environment where proper PPE will be required while performing tasks and duties. The position requires walking and standing for prolonged periods. As part of the regular duties of the job, this position requires the use of hands and fingers to handle, and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb or balance; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl; and talk or hear. This position regularly lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds to shoulder height and occasionally lifts and/or moves up to 50 pounds.
Other Requirements:
- Must be familiar with the basic machine functions to perform the tasks stated above.
- Operators must be able to read and understand production schedules and shop drawings and must be able to understand work directions and safety instructions.
- Must be able to perform shop math calculations and complete paperwork required.
- Qualifications require that the candidate can read and interpret a tape measure to the 32nd of an inch, be able to read a protractor and understand how to plot an angle from shop drawings.
- Must be able to interpret and distinguish colors, follow factory routers, and operate basic hand-held powered and manual tools.
Schedule: 1st shift
Pay: $19.00-$20.00 / hour based on experience
