Microbiology Scientist
First shift 9a-5:30pm Monday - Friday
Onsite in San Jose
Client is seeking a Contract Scientist with experience in microbiology testing, preferably antibacterial susceptibility testing. You will be a key contributor and critical to the success of the company. As part of the Microbiology team, you will be responsible for testing, documenting, and evaluating instruments and consumables to support the company’s verification and validation studies. You will be responsible for executing on study protocols and documenting the data following GLP and GDP practices. As part of the Microbiology team, you will help build up toward commercial readiness of our products and will execute laboratory functions as listed below.
PRIMARY DUTIES
1. Performs microbiological testing for to support ongoing study protocol, testing of instrumentation, antibiotic panels, and other consumables or
2. Analyzes generated data in a timely manner.
3. Writes lab instructions, reports and other documents as needed.
4. Prepares weekly reports to summarize activities and accomplishments clearly and concisely.
5. Performs other microbiology testing procedures including but not limited to preparing bacterial stocks, cultures, and bacterial identification.
6. Handle and dispose of biohazard material in compliance with OSHA and with Biosafety procedures and maintain clean lab environment.
7. Ensure compliance with all company policies and procedures and appropriate regulations, including FDA, ISO 13485, and Client Quality and PDP procedures.
8. Perform other related duties as required.
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE & SKILLS
- Bachelor in Biology, Microbiology or related field
- Minimum one year of laboratory bench experience preferably in a BSL2 environment.
- Experience with the standard tools and methods of microbiology and aseptic techniques such as pipetting, plating, media preparation, bacterial culture and isolation etc.
- Experience with bacterial susceptibility testing methods is greatly preferred.
- Knowledge of asceptic techniques, good documentation practices (GDocP), and good laboratory practices (cGLP).
- Proficiency using Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Strong focus and attention to detail, with the ability to prioritize accuracy while following best practices in a fast-paced industrial laboratory environment.
- Ability to multi-task, work under pressure with time constraints
- Must be flexible and able to adapt to changes in task priority
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work independently to complete assigned tasks
Physical Requirements –
Lifting (up to 75 lbs) laboratory equipment and supplies and moving containers of various materials.
Work involves performing computer applications and standing for extended periods of time.
Operating within cool temperature and low humidity conditions within the production room.
Constant noise is common due to the operation of the air-dry chamber, taping and pouching equipment.
May be exposed to and require the handling of antibiotics and other hazardous materials.
May be exposed to odors incurred during media preparation and frozen panel production.
Lab work is performed wearing safety glasses and lab coat. Excellent personal hygiene required.
Reasonable, reliable attendance and punctuality is an essential job function required for this position.
