Geosyntec is growing in Chicago, and Oak Brook, Illinois and we are looking for a Mid-Career Structural Engineer that is interested in Technical Management to join our national Geostructural and Construction Engineering practice. As a member of our growing practice, you will be asked to apply your knowledge of structural engineering to series of technically diverse and unique construction projects involving; dams and containment structures, heavy-civil construction, erection and controlled demolition engineering, earth retaining structures, complex foundations, and unconventional structures. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:- Analysis, design, and detailing of structural steel and reinforced concrete structures;
- Foundation design including pile caps, mats, footings, and substructures;
- Structural design and detailing of underground structures, work platforms, underpinning systems, and excavation support systems;
- Modeling, analysis, design, and detailing of unconventional structures;
- Structural value engineering, design review, constructability review, and risk assessment;
- Erection engineering and global stability analysis, controlled demolition;
- Preparing technical documents including reports, calculation packages, and construction specifications;
- Structural Condition Assessments;
- Contribute to the development of project proposals and budgets;
- Conducting precondition surveys and construction inspections; and
- Coordinating with CAD Designers on the development of Construction Plans.
- Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering with a structural engineering focus. (required)
- Master’s degree in Civil Engineering (Structural). (preferred)
- Professional registration as a Professional Engineer (P.E.). (preferred)
- At least 5 years (7+ preferred) directly relevant experience in a design environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
- Experience in the design and detailing of steel connections and reinforced concrete. (required)
- Experience in repair/retrofit design of concrete dam structures. (preferred)
- The ability to sit for the NCEES 16-Hour Structural Engineering exam within two years of hire. (preferred)
- Knowledge of relevant structural engineering design and detailing software (RISA, ETABS, RAM, SAP2000, SAFE, GSA, etc.) (required)
- Knowledge of design collaboration software (Bluebeam Studio), and operation of CAD/VDC/BIM software (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.). (preferred)
- Knowledge of general numerical modeling tools. (preferred)
- Experience working within the construction sector or performing design work for contractors/construction managers. (preferred)
- Ability to succeed in a fast-paced consulting environment, handling multiple project assignments, and meeting strict deadlines. (required)
- Current OSHA 10-hr training. (preferred)
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record for business travel. (required)
