DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Part Time Middle School Librarian is responsible for implementing a library program to meet the needs of middle school students and faculty including:  

• All library services such as collection management, book processing & cataloging, activity programming, library management systems, database use and instruction, and facilities maintenance.   
• Collaborating with and supporting teachers and their curriculum through research skills and information literacy related classroom instruction.  
• Supervising students in the library before school, during morning break, during lunch, and during the Thursday afternoon break.
• Supporting students and teachers with research project assistance including evaluating student work.  
• Promoting recreational reading including book displays, leading book clubs, and organizing author talks and other special events.  
• Assisting students and teachers with tech solutions. 
• Coordinating purchases (e.g. collection development, programming, etc.)
• Supervising parent volunteers.
• Step in as needed to cover classes to support the Middle School community.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS:  

• Bachelor's degree, preferably in Library and Information Science or Education.
• A desire to work with middle school students in an educational setting.
• Experience working in a school library.
• Technology proficiency with computers, iPads, printers, and Google Suite.
• Demonstrated commitment to Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Social Justice.

Athenian provides excellent benefits and salaries are competitive and commensurate with work experience and education. The range for this role is $30-42/hour. Community members also enjoy meals on campus and use of athletics facilities, including a pool, gym and fitness center.
