Middle School Special Education Teacher - Leave Replacement Position - Amani Public Charter School

Our goal is to provide Amani Scholars with the academic and critical thinking skills necessary to succeed in competitive high school programs, college and the career of their choice. Amani Public Charter School is located in Mount Vernon, NY which is 25 minutes from Midtown Manhattan. The school is walking distance from the Metro North train station and a short distance from the MTA 241st station.

Position Overview

We are seeking a Special Education Teacher for a leave replacement position. This position requires maintaining continuity of instruction and support for our students with special needs during the regular teacher's absence.

Responsibilities

• Assume all teaching responsibilities of the current Special Education Teacher, including:
  • Providing direct classroom support during ELA and Math classes daily
  • Delivering 45-minute Resource Room instruction daily
  • Supporting 8th grade classroom weekly for CT services per IEP requirements
• Maintain and follow existing:
  • IEP accommodations and modifications
  • Lesson plans and co-teaching arrangements
  • Student assessment and progress monitoring systems
  • Behavior management strategies
• Continue established communication patterns with:
  • Co-teachers and grade-level teams
  • Parents and families (weekly communications)
  • Special Education Coordinator
• Document all student interactions, parent communications, and progress in established systems
• Ensure consistent implementation of:
  • IEP accommodations and modifications
  • Testing accommodations
  • Progress monitoring and reporting
• Participate in scheduled:
  • Team meetings
  • Parent conferences
  • CSE meetings as needed during the leave period

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree required; Master's Degree Preferred
• Valid New York State Special Education Teaching Certification
• Experience in urban education settings
• Strong communication and collaboration skills
• Ability to quickly adapt to established systems and procedures
• Experience with IEP implementation and documentation preferred
