Job Title: Mechanical AssemblerLocation: Richmond, VA, 23231Compensation: $19-22/hour, based on experienceSchedule: Monday – Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm Position Summary: Under moderate to direct supervision, a MIG Welder lays out, fits, and welds fabricated steel frames and/or metal parts on production floor using welding equipment. Measure and marks location for metal components on assembly table following blueprints. Verifies position of metal components in assembly using straight edge, combination square and rule.

- Adjust and uses torch and plasma cutter and/or grinder properly in standard/non standard positions following engineering drawings.
- Welds in vertical, flat, horizontal or overhead positions
- Uses basic hand tools, such as tape measures, square, clamps, etc., to verify proper weld application and quality of weldments.
- Examines work piece for defects and ensures conformance with specifications.
- Welds out components previously tack welded by experienced welders
- Prep and finishes metal components by grinding or sanding
- Operates material handling equipment. Operates overhead crane/hoist
- Responsible for movement of material or product and proper storage.
- Must by physically able to wear required appropriate personal protective equipment including welding helmet, gloves, protective apron and/or leather attire, hearing protection, safety glasses, steel toe shoes and fresh air/forced air respirators as required.
- Performs MIG welding and some TIG welding.
- All other duties as assigned
- Experience in MIG and TIG welding
- Ability to read and understand English
- Capable of performing standard measurements. Ability to read a tape measure in American measurements; ability to use other measuring devices.
- Ability to read drawings and sketches
- Ability to adhere to company safety expectations and wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
- Ability to multitask in fast-paced environment
- Ability to work alone and as part of a team
- Good math skills
- Mechanical aptitude
- Understands basic procedure of voltage and amp settings for given requirements.
- High School diploma or GED certificated preferred. Equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Previous education in or minimum of one year working in a metal fabrication-manufacturing environment. Vocational education in welding may contribute to experience.
- Fab shop and welding experience a plus
- Experience with JD Edwards helpful.
