Job Description
We are seeking a skilled Millwright Mechanic to join our team, providing critical mechanical support in a dynamic research lab environment.
Responsibilities
+ Provide rigging for lifting equipment and material, including lifting straps, chain hoists, and come-alongs.
+ Operate small power tools such as air wenches, drills, and grinders.
+ Lay out and build complex tubing systems using flaring machines and tubing benders.
+ Disassemble, repair, reassemble, and verify various types of valves, valve operators, and pressure regulators.
+ Operate hydraulic systems and high-pressure gas systems including gas tubers, pressure reduction stations, pressure pumps, and seals.
+ Assist in the installation and operation of intricate research test packages in various test facilities.
+ Fabricate, install, operate, and maintain mechanical control test panels and special test equipment.
+ Perform general maintenance on mechanical vacuum pumping equipment, diffusion pumps, cryo-pumps, steam ejector systems, and heat exchangers.
+ Inspect and evaluate mechanical equipment and facility operating systems, making recommendations for maintenance and repair.
+ Fabricate, install, and operate various hydraulic, vacuum, and pneumatic systems.
Essential Skills
+ At least 5 years of mechanical work experience (e.g., Mechanic, Auto Mechanic, Machine Building, A&P Mechanic, Maintenance Technician).
+ Ability to read and interpret multiple blueprints.
+ Experience with various fabricating equipment (e.g., Mills, Lathes, Grinders, Drill Press).
+ Experience working with hydraulics and pneumatics (installation, troubleshooting, repair, build-ups).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in fabricating sheet metal, pipe fitting, pipe welding, pipe bending, and tube bending.
+ Mechanical aptitude, mechanical maintenance, mechanical repair, and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
+ Experience in machine shop operations and R&D laboratory environments.
+ Proficiency in inspection, repair, and hardware handling.

Work Environment
The Test Facilities Operation, Maintenance, and Engineering (TFOME) team at the NASA Glenn Research Center provides engineering and technical services in aeronautics, space power, and propulsion test facilities. This position will be based at the facility in Sandusky, OH. You will work at the NASA Electric Aircraft Test Facility (NEAT) and/or the D-Site (Battery Testing Facility). During testing periods, you will spend about 60% of your time in the control room monitoring systems and 40% performing preventative maintenance on the facility.
