We are looking for aMission Critical Commissioning Engineerto join our team in one of today’s most exciting technologies. This role will report to the
Sr. Director, Product Supportand will bebasedinSan Jose, CA. This is a fully on-site, in office role.
The Mission Critical Commissioning Engineer will be responsible for providing professional, commissioning engineering services to Bloom Energy toward the implementation of complex or critical application projects. This individual will be a member of the Product Support team and work alongside a cross functional team comprising applications engineers, project managers, product development engineers and site supervisors. Prerequisites for this role include an understanding of critical facilities infrastructure, relevant codes & standards and Building Management System protocols. The role requires traveling 30% of the time on assignment for significant stretches.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for testing and commissioning of critical electrical infrastructure
- Ensure installation complies with Bloom Energy standards and customer expectations
- Interface with design engineering (internal and external) to confirm specifications will satisfy contractual commitments
- Manage factory acceptance testing program
- Responsible for developing and executing commissioning scripts and Methods of Procedures (MOPs)
- Manage on site activities including coordination with Bloom personnel, customer representatives, sub-contractors, vendors
- Work with customers when issues arise to ensure customer requirements are understood; ensure Bloom Energy hardware function is explained
- Develop self as expert on operational protocols and designs at Bloom Energy critical power project sites
- Develop MOPs for maintenance tasks after project sites are handed over on an ongoing basis
- Handle escalations for completed projects
Required Skills and Experience:
- BSEE with power systems focus
- 10+ years of experience working in, building equipment for, or designing critical power facilities
- 5+ years of technical writing experience
- Knowledge of electrical equipment used in datacenters and other critical power facilities such as UPS, Battery, transfer switch, low and medium voltage switchgear, protective relaying, instrumentation, diesel gensets, etc.
- Knowledge of codes (NEC, NFPA), design standards and regulations (city, state and federal)
- Ability to work safely and design work procedures with particular attention to electrical work safety (NFPA-70e)
- Experience using meters, power analyzers, oscilloscopes
- Ability to switch between the strategic (e.g., impact of Bloom Energy technology on customer’s long-term business) and tactical (e.g., oversight of relay testing)
- Professional & collaborative – comfortable working closely with a team
- Self-starter - proactive and persistent with well-developed analytical skills
- Ability to work independently and under minimal supervision
- Exceptional verbal and written communication skills that include the following:
○ Ability to communicate complex technical concepts in a clear, concise manner for a non-technical audience
○ Ability to interact with all levels of an organization effectively, from facilities personnel to financial leadership
○ Ability to confidently and clearly defend technical recommendations utilizing sound industry standards and referencing past performance
• Able to travel up to 30% of the time in the United States as well as internationally
Preferred Skills and Experience:
- MSEE
- PE license
- 5+ years (can overlap with above) of field experience commissioning electrical equipment and power systems in critical power facilities
- Knowledge of distributed power generation technology such as fuel cells, solar PV, battery storage
