Role Description:
- The Monitoring Engineer will work in a team of 4-5 engineers in delivering and supporting the customer's monitoring solution. He/she is expected to:
- Coordinate, prepare, and document interactions with external and internal stakeholders to identify and validate infrastructure, applications, security, network, and operations monitoring requirements.
- Compile, summarize, and prioritize requirements as inputs into evaluation models, conduct assessments of solution alternatives, document findings, and present them to the Monitoring Working Group.
- Create detailed designs and validate with internal engineering management, product vendors, third-party SMEs, and enterprise stakeholders.
- Attend local product user groups, establish a personal network of monitoring experts, and represent the program as a monitoring thought leader.
- Install, configure, and test monitoring tools.
- Integrate and test monitoring solutions with AWS GovCloud, the service desk, NOC, SOC, capacity planning, SLA compliance, remote offices, and external partners.
- Work closely with engineers across the program to ensure functionality, interoperability, and reliability of the overall solution as it progresses through unit testing, integration testing, volume testing, and various readiness testing.
- Design, build, test, and deploy monitoring capabilities for the NOC and SOC providing real-time visibility into the health, functionality, and security of Decennial systems using customized dashboards.
- During each Release delivery, he/she is expected to support and maintain the highest security posture as well as alignment with customer's enterprise standards, policies, and processes.
- He/she will be responsible for monitoring IT infrastructure and applications across:
- Public cloud hosted on AWS GovCloud
- External interfaces to partner government agencies, SaaS providers, and CooP/DR provider
- Data Capture Centers (DCC)
- Must possess 3 years experience with AppDynamics monitoring tool to include, implementation, configuration, administration, etc, in a medium to large enterprise environment.
- 1 year experience implementing and navigate one of the following: Windows, Linux, Webservices, or Virtualization
- 1 year experience integrating AppDynamics with multiple applications.
- 1 year experience with programming languages, for example: JAVA, Java Script, .NET, Batch, Script, Perl, HTML, XML
- Strong technical evaluation and implementation skills
- Solid technical understanding of how architecture components fit together, how to identify and mitigate potential risks and points-of-failure, and how to conduct an effective root cause analysis
- Ability to work independently in the installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of solutions
- Strong understanding of common monitoring events, metrics, and notification thresholds of objects to be monitored
- Ability to work with others and move an effort toward a common vision or goal
- Strong analytical skills with strong problem-solving capability
- Ability to plan, prioritize, organize, schedule and execute assignments
- Experience with virtualization technologies network
- Experience in integrating public cloud monitoring with on-prem enterprise solution
- At least 12 months of hands-on experience with a leading enterprise monitoring tool (Client SiteScope, Client Operations Manager, VRealize, SolarWinds, Zenoss, NetScout, Riverbed, Nagios, New Relic, AppDynamics, Dynatrace)
- At least 2 years of virtualized compute experience (VMWare, Citrix, Hyper-V, or KVM)
- At least 12 months of scripting experience (JavaScript, Python, Perl, Bash, PowerShell)
- At least 3 years of infrastructure delivery experience
- At least 12 months of monitoring assessment, design, and planning experience
- At least 12 months of NOC/SOC experience
