Job Summary:
The Mortgage Loan Officer will assist clients as they navigate the mortgage process. Utilizing their center of influence, the Mortgage Loan Officer will obtain applications from prospective borrowers, then process, analyze, and prepare for closing and/or sale, mortgage loan applications for the purchase or refinance of real estate.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Meets with and interviews potential and current clients to understand their lending needs including first-time mortgages and refinance of existing loans.
- Explains the differences between and approval requirements of various types of mortgages; prepares and presents a lending package based on client specifications.
- Assists clients with completion of mortgage applications, inspecting completed documents for accuracy and thoroughness.
- Reviews loan applications, gathers credit histories and reports, and assesses applicants’ capacity to repay and default risk.
- Based on predetermined requirements, assesses, and grants or rejects mortgage applications.
- Maintains knowledge of trends and developments in the local real estate market; current and predicted lending rates; and changes in rules, regulations, and best practices of various mortgages.
- Develops and maintains contacts with local realtors, developers, and builders to promote and encourage the use of bank services for residential mortgages.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
- May assist with training new mortgage officers.
Required Skills/Abilities:
- Must have a demonstrated, well-performing center of influence.
- Must have a strong conversion rate from application to closed loans.
- Must be able to maintain and build centers of influence.
- Must be a self-starter with little supervision.
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Thorough understanding of Conventional Lending, Federal Housing Authority (FHA), Veterans Affairs (VA), United States Department of Agriculture – Rural Development (USDA), and various other loan products.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software.
Education and Experience:
- Three to five years of prior experience with mortgage lending or related field.
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Business Administration strongly preferred.
- NMLS License required.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift 15 pounds at times.
