Job Summary
Serves as the direct sales manager of a Mortgage Loan Originator (MLO) team. Responsible for delivering superior growth and profit by executing on Peoples State Bank mortgage strategic plans and initiatives. Work within the mortgage department, as well as with other business lines and retail branches to drive efficiency and mortgage sales. Responsible for origination, underwriting and closing secured real estate loans. Ensure that a safe, sound and profitable mortgage loan portfolio is maintained while promoting quality mortgage loan customer service and related activities.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Direct activity of Loan Officer Staff to achieve maximum production levels; conducts performance reviews and supports overall employee career development.
- Maintain personal production pipeline and achieve company loan productivity goals.
- Receive and screen loan applications: request credit status, banking, and other references, conduct on-site inspections, order appraisals, and other required duties; correspond with or interview applicant creditors to resolve questions regarding the application; analyze applicant's financial status, credit and property evaluation to determine feasibility of granting loan request to loan committee for approval; communicate loan decision to applicants, including rationale for decisions, and assures necessary supporting documents are prepared.
- Manage, mentor and train mortgage bankers so they are developing and meeting their sales goals. Provide regular coaching to team.
- Monitors loan officer pipelines to ensure timely processing, outstanding customer experience, and enforce company policy guidelines.
- Ensure all functions are in complete compliance with federal, state, regulatory, and company policy and procedures. Compliance with secondary market guidelines where appropriate.
- Assist mortgage lenders with loan structuring, pricing and underwriting of mortgage loans, including being an elevated point of contact for complex applications.
- Proactively manage the profitability and quality of the residential portfolio.
- Appropriately assess risk making sound loan decisions, applying ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency, as well as effectively supervise the activity of others and create accountability with those who fail to maintain these standards.
- Ensure the Bank's CRA goals are obtained through outreach within mortgage lending.
- Proactively research and introduce prudent mortgage products and services to broaden and deepen relationships with new and existing customers.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure a smooth and delightful customer experience.
- Lead the lending team towards overall bank goals including referrals to other areas of the bank in order to meet the overall bank objective of full banking customer relationships.
- Review past due report, make calls and take appropriate action to minimize past due loans.
- Participate in community events and activities to support Pride in Peoples and network with other community leaders.
- Oversee sales team performance and communicates goals and policy changes on a regular basis. Generates new business through bank marketing efforts as well as assist in developing referral business through realtors etc. to expand market share.
- Recruit, hire, and train MLOs.
- Project a professional image and adhere to standards consistent with company policies and procedures.
Desirable Education, Experience & Skills
- Requires National Mortgage Licensing System & Registry (NMLS) registration under the SAFE Act of 2008.
- Bachelor's Degree in Finance, Real Estate, Business Administration, or a related field.
- 5+ years of mortgage banking experience.
- 2+ years management experience in the banking industry preferred.
- Exceptional verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills to be able to interact and communicate with diverse groups including staff, other bank personnel and customers.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills.
- Demonstrate leadership skills that produce results through planning, execution, collaboration and accountability.
- Understanding of government regulations, legal requirements and secondary market rules involving lending and related functions.
- Results orientated sales ability with success in establishing and building customer relationships.
- Strong computer skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours
