Job Summary:
Under direct supervision of the MRI/CT supervisor, performs patient examinations and related activities; performs patient exams in accordance with established protocols, demonstrates knowledge of digital environment; reviews images prior to archiving to PACS and for submission to radiologists for interpretation, maintains patient records; assures the correct patient is being imaged in accordance to hospital protocol of checking at least two patient identifiers prior to completing examination, and patient's clinical history is complete; completes associated paperwork, performs QA/QC on equipment, as needed. Stocks exam rooms with basic supplies, starts IV's and/or administer contrast, as needed, maintains and adheres to accepted sterile techniques and provides clean environment within examination area. Provide student technologists with the basic procedural concepts within responsible modality. Share emergency call, as required. Demonstrates appropriate computer skills. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served; also demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development and possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs, and to provide the care needed. Demonstrates knowledge and skill to appropriately communicate and interact with patients, families, visitors, and vendors of all age groups while being sensitive to their cultural and religious beliefs. Knowledgeable of Radiation Safety ALARA principles and practice. The MRI Technologist operates the magnetic resonance imaging equipment to produce images of the body for diagnostic purposes.
Performance Expectations:
ï‚· Utilizes the ALARA principle on all exams performed.
ï‚· Uses radiation shielding when possible.
ï‚· Exhibits excellent oral and written communication skills.
ï‚· Possesses technical aptitude for dealing with and troubleshooting multiple pieces of Radiology equipment including but not limited to Pacs, RIS, , EMR, and GE MRI 360 equipment
ï‚· Is competent in performing breast MRI’s and image post processing on independent workstation.
ï‚· Perform complex tasks associated with the operation of high field strength magnets and related equipment to produce special radiographic images of specific body parts
ï‚· Position patients for MR scans using immobilization and protective equipment to comply with
ï‚· government regulations and to ensure the safety of patients and staff.
ï‚· Screen patients for MR safety prior to procedure performance.
ï‚· Properly identify patients who present for testing.
ï‚· Verify orders and perform said orders.
ï‚· Perform Radiological procedures when not performing MRI Duties
ï‚· Evaluate MR scans for technical quality, collate processed images and sequence of exposure and label appropriately.
ï‚· Ability to properly place orders for testing in the hospital’s computer system.
ï‚· Load and operate power injectors for contrast media administration
ï‚· Provide for the psychological and physical needs of patients for MR procedures
ï‚· Continually monitors supply levels and order supplies accordingly.
ï‚· Properly collects, labels, and delivers biopsy specimens to Lab in a timely manner.
ï‚· Assist radiologists in developing new protocols and MR imaging techniques
ï‚· Able to multitask and prioritize workload. ï‚· Works within Excel and Microsoft Word.
ï‚· Tolerates physically demanding tasks of moving equipment and patients utilizing safety measures for both yourself and/or patient.
Qualifications:
Education/Skills
Graduate from an approved AMA school of Radiologic Technology. Maintain 12 CEU’s yearly.
Work Experience:
Three years of MRI or CT experience preferred.
Certification/Licensure-DUE UPON HIRE
ï‚· Licensed with Mississippi Department of Health (MSRT)
ï‚· American Registry of Radiologic Technologists, ARRT R.T. (R) Radiography
Additional Certification/Licensure - Obtained based on required timeframe below
ï‚· Basic Life Support Within 30 Days of Employment Required
ï‚· MR - AART (R) (MR) MRI Within 2 Years of Employment Preferred
