General Summary
Under general supervision and according to established policies and procedures, you will perform quality diagnostic MRI scans. You will have an above average knowledge of MRI equipment and will comply with performance measures to ensure patient/customer satisfaction, clinical quality benchmarks, and operational financial targets are constantly maintained. You will also contribute to maintaining an environment that supports our philosophy and values.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities
- Identify opportunities to improve patient experience and participate in projects/programs designed to enhance service delivery and patient satisfaction.
- Identify opportunities to improve the Environment of Care, and patient and staff safety. Participate in projects and programs designed to create a safe environment to avoid error.
- Demonstrate complete working knowledge of all equipment and maintain clinical proficiency.
- Perform weekly safety warm-up and quality control checks for MRI equipment/computers with documentation.
- Prepare patients for procedures by confirming identification, noting medical history, screening for magnetic safety, and maintaining adherence to safety standards.
- Transfer patients to MRI table, assist with positioning, apply immobilization devices and coils as necessary, and explain procedures to allay apprehensions.
- Perform MR scans on patients of all age groups according to physician orders and department policies.
- Communicate with physicians and patient care areas regarding nonscheduled exams and coordinate pre-exam, exam, and post-exam activities.
- Perform venipuncture for administration of IV contrast as per policy.
- Ensure accurate patient information on all films, radiology requisitions, and in the PACS. Deliver completed exams to the file room ASAP for assembly and reading.
- Enter post-procedure information into the RIS system to ensure accurate billing and radiology history for each patient.
- Notify appropriate personnel of equipment malfunctions and needed repairs, ensuring maintenance and repairs are completed efficiently.
- Instruct and demonstrate MR equipment operation and other technical aspects for Radiology students and/or hospital Radiology personnel.
- Maintain knowledge of current trends and developments in the field by reading appropriate literature and attending related conferences and seminars.
- Adhere to and perform in accordance with hospital and department procedures related to safety, infection control, fire, and disasters.
- Provide MRI services on-call during off hours as necessary.
- Aid physicians in localizing lesions during MRI breast biopsies.
- Represent the MRI Section in areas such as Staff Schedule, Employee Evaluations, Supply Management, Capital Acquisition, Operational Budget, Process Improvement, and Policy and Procedure.
- Collect and analyze information about the patient and the environment to promote and maintain patient safety.
- Perform other duties and shifts as needed.
Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Education:
- Knowledge of radiology standards and procedures as they relate to MRI, normally acquired through graduation from an approved radiology school, an Associate’s Degree in Radiology, or sufficient on-the-job training to meet ARRT certification requirements.
- Additional courses in cross-sectional anatomy and/or computer technology are desired.
Experience:
- One year of clinical experience in diagnostic imaging is beneficial to enhance and develop skills.
- Previous experience in MRI Technology and cross-sectional anatomy is beneficial.
Required:
- Current BLS certification or obtained within 90 days of hire.
- Current ARRT MRI registry certification or ARMRI certification to be completed within two years of hire is strongly encouraged.
- Registered with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Radiography, ARRT(R); or ARRT(R) eligible with registry certification obtained within three months of hire.
- Interpersonal skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients, physicians, and co-workers who may be under physical and/or emotional stress.
- Analytical skills to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of MR techniques and methods.
- Knowledge of cross-sectional anatomy to obtain quality images.
- Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail for approximately 75% of work time when operating equipment, manipulating, reproducing images, and dealing with patient records, as well as the ability to work effectively under stressful conditions and during irregular hours.
Annual Competencies:
- Annual competencies as required by Aspirus and/or various regulatory agencies based on entity and/or job position.
Minimum Physical Requirements
- SEDENTARY WORK – Lifting 10 lbs maximum. Walking and standing occasionally.
- LIGHT WORK – Lifting 20 lbs maximum. Frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 lbs. May entail walking and standing; significant sitting and/or degree of pushing on arms or legs.
- MEDIUM WORK – Lifting 50 lbs maximum. Occasional lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- HEAVY WORK – Lifting 100 lbs maximum. Frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 lbs.
- VERY HEAVY WORK – Lifting in excess of 100 lbs. Frequent lifting and carrying of 50 lbs or more.
