About the role, Your Impact
Baxter & Woodman has a rewarding opportunity for an engineering internship in our Chicago, Naperville, or Mokena, IL office. This on-the-job experience has a variety of responsibilities and duties that will provide a well-rounded background in engineering.
What your day-to-day will look like, what you will learn on the job
- Work with other Baxter & Woodman staff to evaluate and develop engineering solutions.
- Assist in aiding Baxter & Woodman staff with field assignments such as construction inspection.
- Assist in preparing plans and specifications for small projects under the supervision of a project manager.
- Assist in developing grant and loan applications under the direction of a grant lead.
- Develop database entries for our various funding programs.
- Assist in rate study spreadsheet and cost development.
- Assist with risk and resiliency reporting for various municipalities.
- Review development plans for compliance with local requirements, including Stormwater management, grading, sanitary sewers, water lines, and transportation aspects.
- Assist with preparation, documentation and improvement of processes and procedures.
- Prepare written reports as required by local municipalities and internal project managers.
- Provide general municipal engineering services.
- Prepare and submit permits for local municipal projects.
Education Requirement
- Ongoing pursuit of a 4-year degree in Civil Engineering or Environmental Engineering.
Must-haves, what you will bring
- Maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.0/4.0.
- Ability to work with local government staff and officials.
- Ability to work cooperatively with internal and external personnel.
- Ability to travel throughout Northeastern Illinois (own transportation)
- Work in a team environment.
- Strong written, verbal, computer, and organizational skills.
Compensation The hourly pay for this role is $22. Actual compensation packages are based on several factors that are unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, depth of experience, and certifications.
