Job Description Summary
The MIND RN Program Manager reports to the Executive Director of the MUSC Institute of Neuroscience Discovery (MIND) and is responsible for all clinical activities of the program.This role collaborates with a wide range of stakeholders across multiple hospitals and ambulatory facilities to develop and grow the assigned programs. The MIND RN Program Manager leads programmatic staff (direct reports) and provides programmatic expertise to support the strategy and operations in all markets.

Job Description
Job Duties:
25%: Assure program adherence to relevant safety, regulatory, certification and/or accreditation standards.
a. Ensure stakeholders are knowledgeable about applicable standards and demonstrate consistent performance that adheres to those standards.
b. Ensure implementation of program disease specific performance measures, guidelines, and established standards of care in nursing practice for the MIND Program.
c. Collaborate with other disciplines to ensure effective and efficient nursing support services are provided.
d. Develop and monitor systems ensuring that patient support needs and regulatory standards are met.
e. Utilize research and benchmark data when planning and evaluating service support operations.
f. Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate service-specific support goals which are based on organizational and departmental goals.
g. Pursue other recognition and quality programs for areas of responsibility, as applicable.
h. Conduct gap analyses to meet requirements for recognition and quality programs for areas of responsibility.
20%: Provide leadership to achieve desired outcomes.
a. Promote effective and efficient interdisciplinary meetings and committees.
b. Assist in the development, review, revision, dissemination and implementation of MUSC Health policies and procedures as they relate MIND support of such policies and procedures.
c. Negotiate effectively.
d. Encourage and assist staff to deal appropriately with conflict.
e. Delegate appropriately and effectively within confines of roles.
f. Set clear expectations.
g. Promote a positive, motivating environment supportive of staff retention.
15%: Lead and/or participate in quality initiatives, performance improvement and research activities designed to improve patient care and organizational processes.
a. Review and analyze current literature and research in area of specialty as a basis for improving outcomes and practice.
b. Identify clinical problems for study, communicate these to appropriate resources and seek opportunities to participate in investigative and evaluative activities.
c. Participate in PI activities/clinical research and provide written summary of involvement.
d. Collect data for evaluation to improve care.
15%: Facilitate professional development of direct reports to enhance quality patient care and the work environment.
a. Conduct ongoing assessment of educational needs.
b. Facilitate neuroscience-specific orientation and continuing education program.
c. Develop and conduct orientation and education programs across the system that enable new and existing staff to acquire the knowledge, skills, and attitudes necessary to succeed in meeting their job requirements and goals.
d. Develop, organize and oversee a successful orientation program for all new employees
e. Ensure competency based orientation is current.
g. Use both internal and external resources to meet educational needs.
h. Ensure that employee performance is consistent and congruent with established criteria for each position and/or level of advancement.
i. Ensure employee evaluations are completed and administered on time.
j. Create an environment that promotes staff growth, meets expectations and accomplishments goals and objectives.
k. Encourage and support the professional development of staff.
15%: Function as a liaison between various departments and locations across the care continuum, communicating patient support needs and opportunities for improvement.
a. Critically evaluate and recommend new and/or revised standards of supportive care in response to patient or unit needs.
b. Function as a supportive clinical resource to staff.
c. Effectively manage conflict by confronting the issue or problem and collaborating with others to explore and implement acceptable solutions.
d. Initiate and coach others in resolving ongoing problems and issues.
e. Demonstrate fiscal accountability while providing quality clinical support.
f. Facilitate long term follow-up and tracking of patient outcomes.
g. Develop materials for demonstration and teaching for the patients and staff about services provided by MIND.
h. Monitor progress and provide evidence of achieving mutually agreed upon goals within established time frame.
i. Provide written evaluation of previous year’s goals.
j. Demonstrate effective use of computer-based information for decision support, continuous quality improvement and professional development.
10%: Demonstrate accountability for professional competency and growth.
a. Formulate and meet professional goals.
b. Participate in continuing education workshops and seminars.
c. Demonstrate clinical knowledge and skills that allow identification and evaluation of clinical support issues.
d. Utilize internal resources.
e. Participate in professional organizations.
f. Maintain readiness to publish outcomes and/or present knowledge at industry and community forums.
Additional:
RN degree required with an education plan to obtain a bachelor’s degree relevant to the healthcare environment required for staff hired after July 1, 2023. Four years of related work experience as a registered nurse required. One year of supervisory or management experience in a nursing setting preferred. The role includes provision of nursing care services in collaboration with other health professionals. Current knowledge base of procedures, techniques, equipment, technical advances and regulatory agencies and standards within the field of Nursing. Ability to implement sound business and human resource management principles.
Current South Carolina licensure or licensure in a compact state as a registered nurse required. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) required, either a certification from an American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Health Providers (or AHA recognized equivalent) or an American Red Cross CPR/AED for Professional Rescuer and Healthcare Provider.
Additional Job Description
Bachelor’s degree in Nursing required with an education plan to obtain a master’s degree relevant to the healthcare environment required for staff hired after July 1, 2013. Master’s degree in a relevant field preferred. Four years of related work experience as a registered nurse required. One year of supervisory or management experience in a nursing setting preferred. Ensure the provision of nursing care services in collaboration with other health professionals. Current knowledge base of procedures, techniques, equipment, technical advances and regulatory agencies and standards within the field of Nursing. Ability to implement sound business and human resource management principles. Current South Carolina licensure or licensure in a compact state as a registered nurse required.
