POSITION SUMMARY
The Naval Architect will be part of the ship design team and report to the Ship Design Technical Lead. This position plays a vital role in the Naval Design group and will contribute to continued success in early stage design at shipyard. Tasking will include items such as:
- Complete feasibility studies, including hull form development, propulsion definitions/studies, arrangement reviews and performance characteristics - all to satisfy customer requirements
- Developing general arrangements for new projects, integrating payload, working closely with the concept payload team
- Work on definition of pre-contractual technical specifications, major equipment lists, and support cost estimation team
- Support proposal development efforts
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Duties to include, but not limited to
- As part of the Naval Design team, will have responsibility to complete Naval Architecture and engineering tasks to support all work/projects assigned to the team
- Work collaboratively in the Naval Systems group as well as the with core engineering teams at shipyard
- Support proposal development for ship designs, R&D, etc., in support of business development efforts and customer requests
- Maintain awareness of the latest advancements in engineering and science associated with ship design and production, as well as related fields
- Ability to analyze computational fluid dynamics and model basin test results
- Requires travel to support the shipyard teams, research partners, and universities
- Build relationships and coordinate with research partners, including universities and labs
- Abide by all organizational policies and procedures

EDUCATION
- Master's Degree in a related Engineering field, preferably Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering and 5 years in the maritime industry. This can also be met with a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, preferably Naval Architecture or Marine Engineering, and 8 years of experience in the maritime industry.
SKILLS
- Must be self-motivated and capable of working individually, as part of a technical team, and as a project lead of a small team
- Must have a working knowledge of standard shipbuilding rules and regulations, as well as the associated regulatory agencies and the review & approval process
- Must have computer skills relevant to the field of competence
- Must have ability to work within schedule and budget constraints
- Ability to approach challenging problems with creative solutions
- Must have the ability to maintain a professional demeanor
- Must have effective written and verbal communication skills
- Must have ability to maintain confidentiality
- Experience with concept and functional ship design desirable, as is experience in a research and development environment
