Join Serco as a Navy Certified, Diesel Engine Inspector. You will be on a team that is evaluating and managing the delivery of new amphibious ships and landing craft to the fleet. Our team is led by a Program Manager and Deputy Program Manager, each having decades of experience working in the DoD and Shipbuilding Industry. Our Amphibious Warfare Operation, which is part of Serco's Maritime Engineering, Technology and Sustainment (METS) business, provides critical services to nearly all U.S. Navy amphibious ships and craft. You will work closely with Government and industry professionals, shipbuilders, and other support personnel. We have only one objective: to ensure our clients’ mission objectives are achieved with the highest level of capability and assurance, and at the lowest possible cost. This position is contingent on your ability to obtain, maintain, and transfer your Secret clearance post-employment

In this role, you will:
+ Support the waterfront and advise the Hull, Mechancial & Electrical (HM&E) Government Lead of production and design issues.
+ Oversee installation and repair of marine power plants, propulsion systems, and other mechanical and electrical equipment in ships, docks, and marine facilities.
+ Provide direction on projects from inception through completion and to provide technical and managerial assistance on all aspects of project management to comply with the technical requirements of the contract for the customer.
+ Evaluate performance in terms of actual and planned task schedules and resource requirements.
+ Review work for quality assurance.
+ Compose memoranda, reports, and other documentation highlighting project steps and status for daily and weekly meetings with customer.
+ Attend meetings and make presentations about project status and work commitments.
+ Ensure training of staff members and instructs them on customer’s methods, procedures, and standards.
+ Evaluate, develop or implement procedures regarding project documentation and development.
+ Troubleshoot technical problems and take corrective action.
+ Participate in long-range planning, analysis, and program design.
+ Participate in the planning and design of new projects as requested.
+ Conduct Configuration Management (CM) by maintaining the integrity of work products using configuration identification, configuration control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audits.
+ Assist in maintaining or developing ship specifications and ship drawings, engineering change proposals, and potential work items.
+ Collaborate with government and contractor personnel to develop technical documentation per contract requirements.
+ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
To be successful in this role, you will have
+ Active Navy Certification as a Diesel Engine Inspector is required.
+ High School Diploma / GED plus10-12 years or more years of relevant experience. Relevant experience is professional experience of essentially the same scope and complexity.Successfully completed a professional engineering degree from an Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) accredited college or university. Professional experience can be substituted for an engineering degree if five (5) or more years of specific work experience can be demonstrated in an analogous or higher-level position.
+ A current DoD security clearance or be able to obtain an interim clearance shortly after hire.
+ United States (U.S.) citizenship.
+ Ability to operate personal computers and have good knowledge and operational abilities with Microsoft Office tools.
+ Ability to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility. Some work may occur within an industrial field office, outdoors and/or aboard ship while the ship is undergoing construction, alteration, activation, overhaul, repair, and/or underway trials. Walking and climbing throughout the ship, to accomplish ship checks, may be required. Exposure to high noise levels, uncomfortable temperatures, heights, or other industrial safety conditions will require use of personal protective clothing and equipment.
+ Ability to travel 10% to support activities in a shipyard or naval facility or onboard ship while underway.
Additional desired experience and skills:
+ Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering is desired.
+ Relevant U.S. Navy or U.S. Coast Guard experience in the areas of ship construction or ship repair is desired.
+ Relevant Amphibious warship ship and/or craft experience is ideal.
