This position may be considered for a hybrid work arrangement based on ALLETE's needs. A Hybrid work arrangement means the employee's position will be a blend of work performed both in-person and at an offsite location such as an employee's home office. This position will report to Duluth, MN.
ALLETE has an opportunity with the Cyber Technology Services Data Transport group to work with the Network Administrator team to design, deploy and maintain the enterprise IP network infrastructure. This role also offers an opportunity to get in on the ground floor in developing the Utility's MPLS infrastructure to support IT and OT communications requirements. The successful candidate will need to learn and adapt quickly, have an understanding of network switching, routing and wireless and be a good communicator when interacting with other CTS Personnel.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provide technical support and administration of communication networks and security infrastructure elements in an enterprise environment.
- Participate in or lead the design, requirement analysis, acquisition, installation, documentation, trouble shooting, and monitoring of required communication networks and systems.
- Assure efficient operation of communication systems through monitoring and capacity planning.
- Plan, research, and recommend new technologies for the company.
- Manage communications systems projects, including budgeting, procurement, and implementation.
- Perform regular security vulnerability assessments on all equipment.
REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelors degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related field PLUS four years or more related job experience*
OR - Associates degree in Network or Systems administration or related degree PLUS eight years or more related job experience*
*Related job experience may include but not limited to the implementation, operation, and management of communication networks or related systems.
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE:
- Cisco wired and wireless IP networking
- Cisco certifications such as CCNP, CCDP or CCIE
- MPLS routing, preferably Nokia platform
- Firewalls, ACL's, network segmentation and Cisco ISE
- Windows and Linux servers along with communication systems monitoring and management applications
- Network management systems such as SolarWinds, Infoblox, Cisco DNA Center, Nokia NFM-P
- Project management
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
- Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license.
- Must possess strong interpersonal and communication skills required to establish and maintain positive working relationships.
- This position may be subject to assessment of skills, job match and/or aptitude.
